Niemi sucks but Murray is 34th in the league in GAA as well. This team has some issues besides goaltending. One of the easiest fixes would be to stop leading the league in penalties and stay out of the box. The guy wearing the C needs lead by example on this one. - all-pgh
I'm blaming tired legs, Reaves, poop schedule, rubbish 4th line, Reaves, trading our first for Reaves, penalties, Reaves & last but not least Niemi & Reaves. Also last 1 - Reaves! |

Next two back to backs are on their next road trip. Four games in six days. First Minnesota/Winnepeg, two days off then Edmonton/Calgary. I think we need to wait until after these sets of games to assess Niemi. None of these teams are Chicago or Tampa Bay quality.
They have seven games in twelve days coming up next. They are also in a stretch of eleven road games out of fifteen. This is not an easy schedule. All in all they are off to a good start and when the travelling settles down that will only help the team. |

The Peg are going to be a tough test, not overly skilled but beat the poop out of you then score over your bleeding corpse. That's after the Wild who aren't scared to throw a few cheap shots here & there. So that double will be very tough in my opinion. Then the Alberta double can be anything - who knows what they will throw up??
I can't say Niemi is getting less help than Murray, but everyone here thinks that is the case. At this stage I would consider playing Muzza B2B & give Niemi the Oil & Muzza the Flames. |

My guess is Niemi gets Minnesota then Calgary. Minnesota is banged up. Calgary is the second of three in four nights with a trip to Vancouver to finish the trip.
Niemi needs to at least be respectable in both of these opportunities. If he sucks in just one of these he is toast. |

Waiting on Wilson's blog? lol
I talked about it earlier. It's a low-risk/high-reward move.
My personal feelings is he will not work out; he's flat out too slow for this team. There are nothing but plusses for this deal though.
1) No long-term commitment.
2) Would be a major upgrade on the 4C if he doesn't work out at 3C.
3) Gave up nothing.
4) Pens would still have go to give up a major roster player to get a major upgrade at 3C, so the option is not off the table. |

I agree with a lot of your points. If the Pens wanted someone better than a Riley Sheahan, we were always gonna have to make a hockey trade, so I'm not really worried about the cap. I don't think he's the answer at 3C and I wouldn't be surprised if McKegg continues to be the pivot of that line, but Sheahan goes a long way to making the 4th line competent (whether he's the 4C himself or he bumps McKegg down there). Gives Ruth more time to evaluate other options and we can just let him walk after this season. |

this Sheahan found himself being bumped down the lineup and in this case off the team by speedier players , in this case it was AA |

Because I am waiting on us to reacquire Matt Cullen. If Minnesota flounders this year and that is a distinct possibility with the injuries they have. Cullen will be back. |

I think a lot of people wanted a higher profile guy. A known quantity. Sheahan scored two goals last year. Nobody knows if he'll actually help this team. Everybody knows a player like Galchenyuk would help this team even though it's highly unlikely.
It will be interesting to see if he can regain a little touch and help that 4th line get a few points.......I think that's where he'll settle. Like you say, he'll be a nice upgrade for that line. |

The Pens have a good enough team to stay in hunt until the deadline... barring any major injuries that is.
There are some VERY interesting names that COULD be available come the deadline that could be a game-changing rental Centerman for teams:
1) Henrik Sedin
2) Tomas Plekanec
3) Valtteri Filppula
Clearly money is an issue with guys like that, but deals can be made. I'm just trying to point out that if Sheahan doesn't work out, the Pens aren't done. |

Ouch Scott Wilson has to play on a line with Glendening and Witkowski tonight. How can he impress his new coach playing with those 2 bums? I might tune in and watch the fierce battle between former Pens Wilson vs Derrick Pouliot who has been playing regularly the last 5 games running the second PP and playing with the guy who has his number. |

4 is better than 8? Neimis save % actually managed to go down after tonight...below .800 now...pickard was a missed opportunity for sure. - taleisyreXIII
If they could have gotten Pickard, they should have, agree there. But you don't call up a struggling prospect just because he's better than a guy with an 8 GAA, you find another goalie. |

Rust deserves to play top nine more then Hagelin, but that's likely the right players once Sprong is up.
I'd like to see that top line as well. Sid scores more with Sheary but the goals percentage is actually higher with Hornqvist because he's much better defensively (mostly because Sheary is pretty careless).
Think I'd go Sheary on the 3rd because Sheary-Malkin-Kessel/Sprong would have no backchecking at all. |

I wonder which one Sheahan is? |
