Agreed they likely wouldn't want maatta, which is why I don't think they're good trading partners.

Definitely disagree 100%! If Calgary isn't at least a good trading partner I'd love to hear the list of teams and players that are a better fit that are capable good 3rd line centres...
Reasons for Calgary
1- Calgary clearly needs RWs (Hornqvist would immediately be there #1)
2- Burke and the flames org seem to love players that play exactly the way Hornqvist does.
3- Flames are in a win now mode evidence with the Smith and Hamonic trades for picks and prospects.
Reasons for Pittsburgh
1- Pens need a 3rd line center with skill. Being 21 doesn't hurt either!
2- Pens have there most depth at RW and possibly still to many with even trading 1. How long do you leave Sprong down before giving him a chance? Junior isn't helping his progression much longer. He looks to be a pure scorer with defensive liabilities. He needs top 6 sooner then later.
3- Solves at least the 3rd line center for a long time with clearly potential to jump up to 2nd line for injury.
As for 1 year left for Hornqvist an extension can be worked out before or the minute after a deal was worked out. Just like the pens could talk to Bennett with permission before the trade as well. People seemed to be fine getting bozak with 1 year left but when it's Hornqvist all a sudden it's not good???
We talk about Sprong having so much potential and Bennett losing it but Bennett is only 9 months older and has a 36 point NHL season under his belt. Playing with Brouwer and minimal PP time none the less! Are the pens gonna be able to offer Horny 5 years @ 5 per next offseason? Highly doubt it. Guentzel, rust, cole all gonna want raises to in a year or 2. Why would Hornqvist take a pay cut when he's won his rings and probably his last big contract.
I'd say Hornqvist, Pouliot or ZAR, 1st for Bennett and that's a win for both sides.
