Gotta think Connor gets a similar contract. Some significant salary is moving on if we're to get a decent #3C. |

I'm betting we don't hear much from the people that were saying hornqvist and hagelin aren't going anywhere. And if you look back 2 and 3 posts ago there were quite a few of them! "Sullivan loves them both" "hornqvist definitely will not be moved" Well guess we will find out now it looks to me. Unless we go with 2 4th line center cailibre players I think 1 of them has to go. Can't risk Sid or Malkin going down for an extended period and using a 4th line center on bottom 3 lines. |

I didn't look into it much, but I'd like to know how Matt Cane comes up with those values. He has Hainsey at an expected value of almost 4 mil per season - that's way too high. Other ones that stuck out were Johansen at only 6.2, Tatar at 4.2, and Drouin at 4.1. Something is off with the valuation method - those 3 players are worth more than that. |

If Conor has gotten 4.1 for that term, I would be doing cartwheels |

Cup winners Hainsey and Daley went for $3M each...and we all know who's the best out of the 3. Chill out and be happy we got this done.
Ideally $3.5M would've been great but that's OK.
Määttä is definitely getting traded for a 3rd line C. |

The older the player the more money he credits to them - that is how I see his model! |

I wanted to see Dumoulin signed before Sheary. In my mind he shouldn't be getting more than $3-3.2M. |

If this means we can get Brett Pesce locked up for 6 years at around $4.5 per I'd be very happy. |

I can't see him dealing Maatta... defense is our weakest position. I would think he'd deal from the surplus of RW players. |

From previous blog:
JR wanted him signed long-term. This is close to where that should be; a couple 100k high maybe.
Cap hit would have been lower for an arbitration deal; but that is only 1 or 2 years. Dumo UFA years like 4.5; 5.5 if he gets his offensve up to paul martin level. - sditulli
And I'm saying it's dumb to prioritize term over good cap hit when it comes to left handed second pairing defenseman. Dumoulin will not be Paul martin offensive level production. He's already 26. He's pretty much done developing. |

1mil too much. I agree with Gunner......with as much TOI as he gets you'd think he'd get more points on a high scoring team.
Too bad our system is a dust bowl in regards to D prospects. I'm sure that's the reason JR caved. He shouldn't repeat that with Sheary. |

I'm not saying that you are wrong but does Dumo get the offensive opportunities that could equate to more scoring? I think he's better offensively than his stats say cause he's paired with Tanger or Schultz. |

His valuation work is awful. There are way too many numbers that are not even close to a guys value; both on the high and low side. I have no idea how this kid started getting sited. Its really poor analytics - garbage in garbage out type stuff. |

Has he ever been paired with Schultz? If he has it's been very self only.
Dumoulin has been paired up with Lovejoy, Daley, and Hainsey each more than he's been paired with Letang. He's played up and down the lineup in every possible role. If we haven't seen offensive output by now, we won't. |

Yeah with the system we have we do have to shell out money on our defense. I just wish we were spending the money on a top pairing guy rather than paying a bunch of second pairing dudes and Hunwick. |

He's 25. He can certainly improve offensively; perhaps he's just been unlucky. Seems like everyone is surprised he doesn't put up more accidental points.
Dumo is about 250-300k too high in my book.
He has 2 RFA years on this deal that should be in the low 3's. Then his UFA deals probably average 4.3-4.6. We basically paid him exactly what he should end up getting on the market; and didn't get any discount for giving him financial security (injury risks is real and deserves a discount). 6 years 22.5 million I would love. 6 years 24.6 million isn't anything special. |

For buying out ufa years its fine for dumo. A little cheaper since we took term risks.
In a world where Trevor Daley and hainsey - late 30's defenseman who are inferior players get 3+ per year. 4 million is fine for dumo |

I can help you there.
Just pretend we did a Hunwick for Hainsey swap. You'll be laughing all the way to the bank. |

That's why Letang's health is so important. These guys are good enough with Letang eating huge minutes. Unfortunately they're pretty ordinary without him.
IMO Maatta is a #5 and Dumo is a solid #4. I can accept Dumo's contract 'cause the price of 2nd pairing guys is escalating, unfortunately I think Maatta is turning into a sizable over-pay. |

His birthday is September 6th. He'll be 26 when it matters. That point still stands.
Also my point is that what's the point of buying UfA years when that's the price? Dumoulin is a fine second pairing guy but fine second pairing LDs are pretty common. I wouldn't have prioritized term over bargain cap hit. |

Dumo has one of the worst shots on the team. It takes him a while to get it off and it's not heavy at all. For a guy his size you'd think he'd be able to lean into it a bit more. That's one of the easier skills to improve upon, hopefully he works on it this off season. |
