Well if he puts up at least 5 goals next year... think we can call this a solid contract with him being on the top pairing and having the assists and possession.

There was definitely luck some nights but this recent run was more about clutch moments than anything else. Clutch goaltending, especially first two rounds, and extremely clutch scoring in every round. The clutchness made the bandaged banged up defense overcomable.

Clutchy clutch clutch.

- MattStrat

Agreed. You don't get through 4 rounds on luck. Lucky moments sure. Both superstar centers played like superstars. Goal tending was incredible. Some of the kids had really big moments. They won the previous year in dominating fashion. This year was a mixed bag of star power, grit, guile and experience. Anybody who wonders how the Pens won it this year needs to focus on Cullen in game 6 against Nashville.

All that being said, I wouldn't like our chances without Letang next year.

Quote from GMJR, We got very comfortable with Carter Rowney. He's a very smart player. We're comfortable there. We will look to add one, maybe two centers at some point between now and the start of the season.

Duchene talks are heating up again, but I'm not sure he is the best fit for what the Penguins need and have to offer.

DK sports Pit is saying that Jim Rutherford is back into trade talks for a third-line center.

I can't read, so I'm not sure what it says. Any good info from it?

Said talks have picked up lately. Said he's intrigued by the number of players made available lately. He could get a guy today to fill the role if he wanted to. Still trying to be patient and is in no hurry.

wouldn't exactly call it fleeced. it is still a kinda good deal considering the cap and it rising. but ye 1 mil to much in my opinion.

This is far from a fleecing. But you clearly don't have a great understanding of hockey so I can understand the confusion.

Half mil to much at most. Guy is better than Maatta and deserves to be paid as such. On a related note Maatta is quiet overpaid. But still not a bad contract for a team that needs to keep isn't Stanley cup winning defense.

The 3C could come from Calgary. Speculation that Sam Bennett could be a sign and trade!

One benefit of signing Dumo today is it lowers his cap hit for when guentzel needs a raise. That would be a UFA year for Dumo (so 4.5 or more) and guentzel would need paid.
- sditulli

Yeah, it's just a different strategy. The Caps went the route of maximizing cap space for 2 years and then got squeezed. Rutherford could have created an extra million by going arbitration on Dumoulin and longer on Schultz.

If sheary gets 4.1 for 6 years, that would be absolutely terrible. Sheary is a player that hasn't proven that he can play away from one of the best players in the world. He constantly falls over himself. He had a great season last year playing with 2 other great players but as soon as he was demoted, he couldn't do a thing. 4 mil for sheary for 6 years would be disastrous waters to be in.
- rbaurle51

If we were confident Sheary could continue his scoring pace, stay healthy, and the playoffs were a fluke, 4.1M for 6 would be a huge bargain. But who's confident in that?

This was an idea I have mentioned 4 times now... 1 of the 4 players I said Id go after but 95% of people said wasnt available..... I also heard yesterday that Hertl was possibly being shopped last mid season so thats 2 of 4 that "arent available" seeming all a sudden becoming available!!!

What would it take to get Sam Bennett do you think? He had a good first season with Calgary and was a top 4 draft pick. He had a tough last season with Calgary. If he can continue to improve tho, I think he would be a great young player and would fit with the Pens.

Did we pay too much money for a bad player? No
Did we we pay too much for a good player? Probably.

Calgary has potentially the worst RW depth in the league. They are clearly trying to win now with the moves they have made this offseason. (Smith, Hamonic) RW depth of Ferland, Frolik, Brouwer is VERY poor. This is an area of weakness clearly.

The pens have very good depth on RW and still Sprong and ZAR waiting for a spot to open up and they still might have to many forwards.

I said it before and say it again the penguins should definitely be calling the flames about Bennett. Id definitely want Sam Bennett (21 years old, former 4th overall pick, RFA) playing for the pens on the third line center. Id start with Hornqvist, and high pick/prospect seeing as Burke loves those type of players and seems the flames organization does to. Start there and If it takes a little more Id pay it for a guy like Bennett who has massive upside obviously and still 5 years of team control. Along with filling the pens third line center hole and Bennett being 10 years younger than Hornqvist and cheaper.

A little more insight into how bad the flames need RWs and I think the pens can use that to there trade advantage.....

Sam Bennett is a RFA, but he can not file for arbitration. CGY is taking a little longer to reach an agreement with him, so if GMJR is interested in Bennett, this could be one reason holding up his decision. GMJR might be waiting to see what his salary turns out to be before deciding on his best 3C option. Bennett can also play LW which adds to the reasons to try to get this young player on the Pens.

Gaudreau and Sheary would be a crazy fast combo... I could see those two working together... But I don't think the Flames are going to let Bennett go.

Maatta is just a troubled defenseman.
