Leafs need a #1Dman, not another 4/5 guy
I don't understand the Manson love from some people.. Maybe we should pay him 10 million and be okay with 12 goals from him. - Arctic_AARDVARK
I just don’t see the kings moving doughty. But sure, if he’s available, you make a strong offer. Liljegren, 1st, kapanen plus.
I think it’s more likely we can acquire a 2-4 year RHD stop gap until liljegren is ready.
Demers, barrie, vatanen, braun, Martinez, myers.

To Ducks:
JVR
Kapanen
2018 3rd round pick.
To Leafs:
Josh Manson
2019 5th round pick* (Upgraded to 3rd if JVR resigns)
JVR gives them an opportunity to go on a run maybe this year with their aging vets (Perry, getz, kesler, bieksa).
If the season isn't going as expected they can flip JVR at the deadline to get picks/prospects (younger). - Bleedz_Blue
That's probably close, but with Manson not on the market! Anaheim would have to be blown away! Jvr,2nd, bracco, Neilson? It would have to big! Probably not worth it! |

Sure a #1 would be best... but unrealistic right now.
If we can get a Doughty without gouging our core great. If not. I think Manson would be ideal for what I think our D need (RH Big Mean, can play, and will help the confidence of our younger/smaller players).
I didn't say pay/treat Manson like a #1... - Bleedz_Blue
the reasons to trade for manson are the reasons the ducks won't trade him. |

I think the argument was we shouldn't get pending free agent Doughty if it costs Marner - BestRapperAlive

We have other assets. |

Still on the Kopitar contract kick are ya.
Leafs need to be patient even if there D is not to our liking.
They may have one in the system with this 1st rnd pick. - zazzle
True.
But as I said yesterday they can't even think about Liljegren if they are trying to win right now, and I think they are. |

He's not anything special imo.. he would just add to the glut of 4/5 guys we already have. He would probably bump out Carrick.. not a huge upgrade imo. |

he's not completely untouchable? But again they'd have to be blown away! He's going to be a good one in years to come! |

agree, D trade market is poop, develop our own for now, gain more playoff experience next spring, sign FA next summer then make a serious run in 2019 |

Nah nah nah..
Timmy is not on the table.. ever..
LA is going to tank this year and they will be more open to moving DD.. but I think they already know they're in trouble and would be enticed by the prospect of 2 very young scoring wingers with a ton of potential, and another 1st. |

Probably the most likely scenario..
But make no mistake, they want to make a run next year. |

Gotta think a Martin Erat signing is in the works for the leafs. McPhee would love to acquire the veteran presence and only have to give up a young player in return. - HockeyHunter

I don't believe they do. I think they want to give themselves a good chance without costing anything other than money, but not really go for it. Bit of a half arsed effort. Now the fans want to go for it, don't get me wrong. But nothing the management has done implies to me they are going for it 100% (IMO) |

This should be the plan! we have the best prospects we've ever had! Liljegren Rosen Dermott Borgman Neilson and my brain just went dead! (As per usual !) but I believe that they would Perfer to let all of them play in the all, or respected clubs! |

maybe at the 2019 trade deadline the price will be that. i think it costs more this year.
they also have other guys carter, muzzin, etc. that they should be moving out ahead of doughty imo.

I would normally agree... but I do worry that we're gonna just lose JVR for nothing if we don't move him before the season starts.
I think he will become valuable for us as the season progresses and we won't want to move him at the deadline... and he will cost us too much to keep in the offseason.
He's a good movable asset that will be good where ever he goes even if he stays with us that would be great, but we might end up just losing him straight up. |

my best guess is that it'll be jvr for vatanen during the season. once vatanen is back healthy and playing. |

Ya what I think is their trying to get a deal for a stop gap for the kids to develop! But camp could change all of that! If a kid comes in and out plays a guy/guys?sending him down COULD? possibly hinder his progress, imo can't let them marinate so to speak to long! but no one has been there too long at this juncture! I believe that demers could be an option that would require pick/prospect? |

i disagree. this is not a management group that goes half assed into anything from what i can tell.
lou will be patient. if the cost to acquire a long-term RHD dman is too high, he'll pickup a rental at the TDL (if we're in good shape). |

Vats - FIN
