I know you're joking, but Marner is going to be better than Nylander. Everyone's currently on the Nylander>Marner train because he dazzled us towards the end of the season, but Marner's skill level and work ethic are higher. |

Basically it could be the same as Reilly not to far off? I would imagine not sure havn't compared numbers! But theodore definitely projects to be a first pairing dman, and for a young cost controlled guy like him?..lots and I imagine that they have asked about pretty much everyone? Teams know that the leafs are interested in a dman and the leafs have forwards and picks/prospects! Funny though no trades - MR.Hunter
Cause if the trade negotiation is leaked, Lou will shut that trade down.
he may revisit another time down the road. |

Gotta think a Martin Erat signing is in the works for the leafs. McPhee would love to acquire the veteran presence and only have to give up a young player in return. |

It would be Kap plus.
But how so?
Kap is a year younger, drafted higher (doesnt matter now I know)
Shea has more NHL games played, true...projects to be a top 4 dman...Kap....a top 6 winger.
If LV were to trade him, Kap could be part of the package. I agree it would not be straight up, as I said. |

Leafs fans need to stop this Kapanen hype.
Yes, he is young.
Yes, he is full of potential.
But his track record so far is 17 regular season games, 1 goal, no assists.
Playoffs: 6 games, 2 goals, no assists.
I'm not saying he is bad.
What I'm saying is we need to stop saying he's a top 6 forward.
Because we've seen this act before - setting up a kid with ridiculous expectations.
Here in Leafsville, that inevitably leads to fans running him out of town when he appears to be merely human. |

Don't know where he'll land on the roster but I have hope for him. I'd disregard those numbers at this point though because if you're stuck with Boyle and Martin or Smith then you're might score negative goals.

I agree with you Wedgie - for the most part. He has - in the middling range trade value because he has not done anything of significance in the NHL. The value could go up if he does well and could disappear - like Virtanen if he trips over his Richard. That having been said - you could trade him for another prospect, maybe include a guy like Bozak and pick up Jake Bean from Carolina. He is a decent prospect, a 13th pick and also has proved nothing so far. Carolina desperately needs a center and I think its a slight overpay but Leafs get a young guy that could be a 4-5 d-man. On the negative side, Bean much like Theodore is a LHD. On the plus, Carolina has a bevy of d-men and Bean is clearly an extra.

LV is not a good trade partner imo. All GM's (and fans for that matter) overvalue their own players Vegas especially so. Looking at the Vegas lineup with 11 d-man and 13 forwards (2 on Robidas Island) it needs about a case of penicillin in my estimation. McPhee will experience pain peeing for a long time. To say that they will hesitate trading d-men is ludicrous. This team will be atrocious. |

mcphee went through the rebuild in washington. he has to know what he's in for and is starting by tanking into a strong draft year.
i can't see him trading his young dmen. but all the old guys will be on the block.
edit: and disgree, chia doesn't overvalue all his players in trades. |

Never. Marner goes no where. His skill level is thru the roof even now and he hasnt even hit puberty yet. Im stoked to see how good this kid could end up being. I'm hoping he is signed for the long haul. Just my opinion thou. lol

If Doughty signed for a descent deal I'd take Doughty but I would never want Marner to go. Thoughts on Marner vs. Nylander? Tough call Herb. |

27. Peter Chiarelli โ Edmonton Oilers Out of 30
GM Score (out of 5): 2.4
Best Attribute: Extensions
Worst Attribute: Trades
Change in total GAR: +14%
Max GAR Ranking: 7 (5*)
*from his tenure in Boston
Generally, aggressiveness in a GM is good, and Chiarelli does have some wins in that column (the Cam Talbot trade is underappreciated). But Chiarelli has traded three first-overall picks since 2013, and basically has a 2nd pairing defenseman to show for it. And letโs not start on signing that Lucic contract (again). |
