If McDavid signs for 13.25 million, teams like Toronto are going to have to dump salary in order to pay their young stars. I could see them off loading Kadri or maybe Bozak... Buffalo will be in the same boat too.... Rutherford will find a decent center.... - hipcheck_goalie
Ha, I was writing your last sentiment as your were posting it. I, too, have faith that JR will come through.

I'd much rather be shopping for a third line center than a 1/2 D or 1/2 C like the NYR are doing... those guys don't exist in the UFA world... the Pens have a very good situation for along time too. |

I see him picking up a overpriced defenseman for a salary dump and minimal prospect... (Not Dion Phanuef either cause of Kessel) but maybe a Gologiski, Myers, or Bogosian. |

I feel like our lists are sometimes unreasonable. Building a perfect team in the cap era. Realistically we already have a 2d... Schultz fits that. Thought 10th in the Norris was a bit high but he's certainly in the top 60 defenseman maybe top 30 and a low -end 1d.
We want to have a top 30 forward in the 3rd line. For a 3c I think we really want a low-end 2c so the 3rd line is really a 2nd. For 1c we want a generational 1c. For 2c we well want a generational 1c.
I guess my point is to be a team good enough to win multiple cups your definition of what a 3c or 2d gets radically shifted. To have a team that can beat the probabilities and win cups after cups every guy is playing a role in the team far below where he would slot in an average team. |

According to Mackey Bonino and Kunitz are getting a ton of interest league wide and probably won't be back. |

Thats ok, Kunitz I would be a bit surprised but nothing wrong with cashing in on a two year deal somewhere else. I would drive em both to the airport. I wouldnt chase either with any crazy money or term. |

Oh me neither by any means. I'm pretty anti-overpaying forwards across the board no matter who they are. But there is a difference in knowing what needs to happen and actually watching these players put on a different team's sweater. Kunitz is gonna hurt. |

Of course Kunitz is, everyone but some Pens fan around here can see his value.
Was really, really hoping Kunitz would be back and cheaper than his last cap hit....looking like that wont happen : / |

9 goals 20 assists for a 3rd liner is reasonable. Add in good possession and intagibles and its easy to see why teams would want him. If he gets over $2 million then he should leave, but if his best off is at 2 then I am fine with offering 1.25 to 1.5 a year which I think he'd take. |

So Madden (who's a goober but is normally on the inside when it comes to stuff like this) says the Pens are giving up on trying to retain bonino and Daley. Bonino is looking for $16mil/4years.
It's funny. Four mil AAV for 4 years is actually a deal I'd be ok with. The Old Man must be even less impressed with Bonino than I am. |

We just don't know what Rutherford has cooking. If he thinks he can do better than Bonino for a little bit more, he needs to go for it. I just can't see something better out there for around that price, and Bonino is clutch, and clutch is everything in life. |

I'm in the 3ish per camp for Bonino...but at 4 I wouldn't lose sleep.
Only two more days and all shall be revealed... |

I would do that too. It's the top of the market for him, but the options are very limited. |

Personally I think Bonino is worth 3 mil a year but I'd easily do 3.5. 4 mil makes me apprehensive, but 4 years isn't too much term and for 4 mil my frame of mind is "ok, I'm not sad to see him walk for that, but there better be a good back up plan here because that's not aweful and there aren't a ton of obvious options." |
