I like the thought process but I don't think Hagelin would be enough, more of a starting point. Obviously, I'd rather not give up assets. I'd rather go with Gagner if we can't get Thornton/Duchene. Heck, even putting Gagner on the wing helps our 3 scoring line approach and allows us to package a guy like Hagelin with Maatta in a trade. I like the idea of Bozak, but I don't know if we'd have enough to pull the trigger without overpaying. Might make more sense at the deadline if the Leafs struggle with goaltending/injuries |

Outside of Thornton (too old) and Duchene (probably too expensive) I like the idea of Gagner too. He's going to make some decent change this season after a good one with CBJ, but he might not be offered nearly as much as Bonino. Maybe $3-3.5 million for 4 years? No need to give up prospects/picks either as he's unrestricted. |

The conundrum for me regarding Hagelin is he's bit pricey for the 3rd/4th line but I dont want any other team to have him. Having said that a healthy Hags is a force on the defensive side of things and PK too, regardless of production for 4 mill.
If he went to the Leafs they'd be an already ridiculously fast team getting much faster. |

Ha he should not get a contract from anyone if we believe Don Cherry, love how he rips him for being a pansy!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJbOxqQTi9M - Daceroni
Pansy enough to block more shots than anyone on the team and stay on the ice continuing to block shots after the leg is broken and continues to play on it in the game afterwards? That kinda pansy? The only thing that blowhard Cherry could block is common sense with his bloated ego. |

Don has lost some credibility over the years and I disagree with him alot...but sometimes he just nails sh!t.
Pretty sure he predicted the right winner in every Pens/Sens series and Pens/Preds series game...I think I only missed one of the openings to HNIC in those two series where him and Ron McLean are down on ice level. |

I like RW blogs because I enjoy the advances statistics side. I don't believe it is the end all as far as decision making, but it is interesting and definitely a piece of the puzzle. However, I can't stand it when graphs are made to be misleading. The 5v5 points/60 for Nick Bonino between '15-'16 and 16'-17' are made to look like his scoring rate was 7X higher the first year as opposed to the second all because of the range shown on the right side of the graph (1.35-2.05). Why not make it 0-2 and accurately show the difference?
The second odd thing about this article is that RW always talks about how it is better to find something for free as opposed to pay assets for it. Why, when the Penguins have cap room for the first time in a long time, would he advocate for trading away assets for a 3C as opposed to overpaying a little for a FA.
This was a confusing one for me. |

Haven't thought about just how bad of a coach Mike Johnston was for a while...man! Guy gets fired and his team goes on to win 2 straight SCFs...has he received a lifetime ban from hockey yet?
Sure hope we don't give you guys Bozak! I don't think Maata helps our blueline very much and I don't think there's anything else we can get in terms of defense. If he is shipped out then it should be in a package for a good defensive D |

He ripped Bonino for diving and it was well deserved. Is it bad that Cherry can't stand seeing hockey players act like soccer players? Not saying this is typical of Bonino (first time I'd seen him do something like that), but I like that Cherry calls a guy out for that |

That's why if it works and you are successful despite the logic of it, you stick with it. It's why I'm not of fan of blowing up anything if it's working for you unless there are no other options. It's like the guy who's car has been running fine for 300k miles with the original transmission screen and fluid and changes them because he thought it would be a good idea and then his transmission dies the next day. That kinda thing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unless Hags is hurting them somehow, don't trade him. |

Diving or not doesn't make him a pansy. Embellishment, diving, it's what all players do from time to time, some more excessive than others. Yes, and your favorite players do it too. Get over it. |

Yeah, but how perfect was that play. He gets Oshie back for doing the exact same thing to him last year in the playoffs. That's poetic justice. |

Didn't think Cherry called him a pansy, but yeah lots of players do it and they should be called out on it every time. If you can see a guy dove on the replay then think of some punishment and get it out of the game. |

Will be a good depth center for the Preds. Still can't believe the goal that was waved off in Game 6 There should be an asterick in the record book reading "Nashville scored a good goal in Game 6 that would have won the game but it was inexplicably waved off by the referees. The referee was out of position and his poor decision to blow the whistle did not alter the play but the goal was disallowed. Numerous poor calls and multiple non calls on Crosby casted suspicion on the Series. The Predators first and last goals of the series were waved off and the cause to this day is unclear

And when that goal was waved off the refs spent the rest of the game making up for it. If you guys can't score on like 5 PPs, one of which was a 5 v 3 when the Pens didn't get a single call, that's on you guys. |

The ref was not out of position, he was in his position. He was blocked, lost sight of the puck and blew his whistle. |
