Buffalo played a good game. Eichel is the real deal and Buffalo is a much better team with him. Lehner was also very good. I thought Ottawa did well to push back but Buffalo was the better team on the night.
It looks like Condon could use a 2 to 3 game break. Even a #1 goalie shouldn't be playing 25+ games in a row. |

Eichel is not only the "real deal" he will ultimately prove all the Canadian press wrong.
The only reason anybody thinks Matthews is better is because he plays on the north side of the border. |

Well...the stats right now are proving Matthews is better. I guess the stats are different this side of the border?
On the North side Matthews has 23 goals so far in 50 games.
Eichel had 24 in 81 games as a rookie.
Is there a Buffalo version of these stats I can look up? You know, alternative facts. |

Matthews was 11 months older when he started his rookie season, which is a huge edge in physical development (19 yo vs 18). Matthews seems to be the better talent but it will be interesting to see how Eichel bounces back from the high ankle sprain.
There is not as big a gap as the rookie season numbers would suggest. |

come on man.....I hate the leafs as much as anyone and agree that the media (at least the Toronto media) overhypes a lot of things about the leafs.......that being said, the reason that people think Matthews is better than eichel is because Matthews has been playing better than eichel.
will eichel end up matching or surpassing him..........who knows.....but right now Matthews is clearly the better player. |

I think both teams will be pleased with what they have for years to come. Interesting side bar to it though, the guy that has been better than both of them is..

MITCH MARNER - JACMAN
I disagree a little......marner has been a little more consistent offensively but I think a lot of that can be attributed to the fact that he plays with 2 solid vets. also, at least in the games I've seen, he's been a bit of a train wreck in his own end.
Matthews has done more (points) with inferior linemates and is a much better 2-way player. |

Sure playing with 2 vets helps, but Marner makes the line go.Hardly a train wreck in his own end. He even kills penalties on occasion. I would suggest the games you saw were against Ottawa only.
This is no slight to Matthews or anyone else. He actually generates more offense than anyone else on the team. Just happy the Leafs have them both |

Lehner was good, he did his job. the team helped him as they played a great physical game using their speed and grit. Ottawa thought it would be an easy one? A little wake up call I hope.
Lenher will always be one of my favorite Goalie. He's mean, and have attitude. At age of 30 he'll be great (more mature). Roy had the same temper and when you use it well, you can carry a team far.
I will always remember the Calder Cup run...Bryan Murray travelled down to Bingo to tell Lenher to show him he was the real deal and the team erased a 0-3 deficit in the series and never looked back to win all other series for the calder. I travelled down from Ottawa to watch a game. It was great. Buffalo will realize that he's the real deal.

Yeah with Lehner it was always about patience and his temperament. Goalies need to have a strong mind to last ....I don't mind loosing Lehner as much as Bishop- atleast Lehner gets us Colin White.
But what I don't understand - or like at all - is how the Sens don't show up and compete in games like this. It makes me question how effective they would be in a situation where their up 3-1 in a series and want to close it out. Eventually they got to learn to identify as a top team. Sad thing is, if andy was back healthy, Ceci Phaneuf are clicking, this team is a duchene or Landeskog away from being true contenders. WAS, PIT, CBJ still have edge but Sens would separate from everyone else. |

I actually think they are pretty close.
I prefer Matthews, but I don't see a huge gap there yet. |

This seems like a reasonable and fair assessment of the situation. You have no future as a blogger...

I'm willing to cut Eichel a lot of slack after he fearlessly saved so many lives at Bowling Green.
Beyond that, though, the only thing that Eichel has done that Matthews hasn't is to start his career off as the biggest draft day consolation prize since Bobby Ryan.
