i would think that Condon will play it out until the all-star break |
|
|
|
I thought the work was catching up with Condon as he had allowed a bad goal in almost every game since the Christmas break......
......then he goes and has a game like last night.

My assumption is they will ride Condon really hard knowing that the only relief is when (if) Anderson makes it back |

With MacArthur shut down for the year, I would expect to see Dorion make a trade sooner rather than later. It fits the Sens pattern of making a move prior to the deadline. My belief is that Ceci and Lazar are the key pieces from our side in a 2 for 1 swap. I still believe EDM and COL are the dance partners.

That would be ideal. Lazar to EDM makes so much sense for both sides. The guy needs a change of scenery.

But why would Dorion go and say that MacArthur is out for the year before doing a trade? You would think that if I am the other teams, I would be saying "Hey you guys desperately need the help now and our asking price just went up because we know you'll do it." Whereas before even the other teams weren't sure how desperate the Sens were. |

it doesn't really matter...the guy hasn't really played in almost 2 years. They weren't going to expect much if he came back. Just now they have some $$$ to spend. |

I would say the chances of moving Ceci are essentially nil, given that they don't have anyone else capable of replacing those minutes effectively, and they could very well lose Methot in the expansion draft. Lazar and Smith would be the obvious 'dangles' at this point... but I'm not sure either would return much in terms of a helpful playoff asset, particularly given how few teams appear to be 'sellers' at this point.
If they do make a trade, it will probably be something like the Hemsky deal, where they slightly overpay for a thrift-shop asset like Parenteau... but one interesting possibility could be Boedkker, who the Sharks might be willing to trade on the cheap given that he just doesn't seem to be a good fit.
Or maybe they could swap 'under-performing assets' with the Islanders, and do Ryan for Ladd straight-up? It certainly sounds like Snow is looking to shake things up, I doubt Ladd would object in terms of his NMC, and Ladd has enough of a two-way game to play anywhere in the lineup. If nothing else, the move would save quite a lot of salary down the road, which (God-willing) could help to re-sign Karlsson. |

Even my sister with absolutely zero hockey knowledge would not do this
Ryan for Ladd trade lol That must be the most stupid thing I heard this weak !!
Ryan is not playing his best hockey I get it. But Ladd is even worst and his contract
pretty much similar to Bobby. I would keep Ryan x1000 time before pulling this deal |

I'd like to know how Ceci is playing effective minutes considering his goal/point totals as well his average play? Total amount of minutes is different than effective minutes in my view.

Ryan hasn't played his best hockey in over half a decade, and is pretty clearly not at all on the same page as Boucher - who isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and clearly rewards players who are consistently putting in a good effort. So if Ladd is "even worst" than Ryan, it's kind of strange that he's scored as many or more goals as Ryan in every single season since the 2012 lockout, in addition to having served as a team captain for every single season he was in Winnipeg.
In terms of contract, Ryan and Ladd are basically even money next year but then Ladd's contract would be $1.5M, $2.5M, $3.5M, and $3.5M cheaper in each of the next 4 seasons. That's exactly the timeframe that Karlsson would need to be resigned, and this represents $11M of real dollars that could be put directly towards achieving that goal. It's possible that you and your sister don't understand the value of that, but I'm pretty sure Melnyk and Murray do (i.e. the people who actually have to manage and pay out multi-million dollar salaries). |

I don't think Ceci has played particularly well this season, but he and Phaneuf have been challenged with a lot more responsibility under Boucher. Maybe I'm just more willing than some to be patient with a 23yo d-man trying to play over 20min/gp, but I don't think you give up on that asset unless you have something awfully compelling on the table. Plus, I just don't see who else is ready to play a top-4 role - especially given that Karlsson and Wideman are the only other RH defenceman on the team.

Were you also not thinking of the next 5 years that Ryan is set to make $7.25M-$7.50M? It might change your perspective a bit.

$Cdn is up. Republicans are back in power so oil prices have already begun to spike up to higher prices. Headed back to the George Bush economy. Not really good for anyone long term but great for people who want to see the $Cdn increase in value in relation to the $US.
I think the MacArthur decision is really about a career coming to an end.
The Sens can take on a large salary long term.

Ladd is 31.5 this July when he still has 6 years left @5.5m. That's brutal....but funny thing is, I'd prob still take him because it's much more manageable |

That was really my point... Ladd has a bad contract, but at this point it's certainly not as bad as Ryan's. Plus, he's been every bit as productive as Ryan over the past few years, and is almost certainly more capable of playing up and down the lineup, as needed.
Personally, I think if anyone laughs the idea off it would be the Islanders, but I was just floating it as a possible idea for discussion. |

What's going on in this thread?
A forward will be brought in by the deadline to replace Mac. Should have been addressed ages ago. Hopefully Mac can just retire and have a decent life without any symptoms.
I don't think Dorion moves any roster players for a forward though. Likely will move a pick or prospect for a forward who can contribute to the top 9. I'd love to see a splash for a legit player, but I highly doubt it happens. With the Duchene rumours swirling again, I'd be all over it, but it will cost you. |

Maybe they do it to get Tavares a goal scorer - maybe going back to where he grew up MIGHT help but I doubt it.

We need a guy that can actually score in the playoffs.
I'd strongly push a white or chabot package for Duchene or Landeskog |

White (maybe) Chabot (never). I think Logan Brown is likely higher on their future depth plans than White. Methot or Ceci should be a player named later. One will be lost in the expansion draft as the roster now stands.
So, the offer for Duchene: #1 2017, Colin White and a player to be named later (either Mehot or Ceci). It seems like a huge price and it is. But every team is playing with the expansion criteria and the requirement that each team make a top 4 Dman available. Because of the no trade provisions in some roster contracts, it means several teams will be obliged to make some really good young assets available.
