I would be curious how the Jets would be with Smith as their goalie. Maybe a trade can be made?
There is a ton of talk here locally about trading Doan after some comments were released, both from him and Friedman. I know he gets knocked in Canada for sticking around (which is stupid in my opinion), but I think it's time for him to be selfish and go for it. He doesn't have but maybe one year left. Try to go out like Bourque did. Hell, they held a parade in Boston for Bourque when he returned with the cup. Imagine what they would do here is Doan did the same? Remember, Phoenix is the city that held a parade for a team that LOST the NBA finals and 300,000 people were there....
They should trade Hanzal, Vrbata, Doan, Stone and bring up Fischer, DeAngelo & Wood and see what they have. Why not, especially seeing as we are going to at worst get the 5th pick in a draft with no consensus franchise player. |

I know he has an expensive contract, but Smith should interest a few teams - WPG and NASH, maybe STL - that have good rosters and aren't getting the goaltending they need. He's had a really good year, all things considered.
As for Doan, I wouldn't mind seeing him traded. His ice time needs to go to a kid.

That keytar player was pretty awesome! Not an instrument that gets much love, but he was rockin it pretty good.
I think it's way past time Doan went elsewhere.
I think the reason he gets bashed a bit is this: having loyalty is one thing, but taking it to the extreme of being happy playing your whole career with a team that has been mediocre at best makes it look like he just doesn't care about winning.
Lets be honest. The Coyotes have been terrible for about a decade and a half with a couple years of success thrown in as outliers. How many players with any skill at all are ok with playing 20 years with a team that missed the playoffs entirely over half of those years and only made it past the quarter finals one year? (I think I have that right, but maybe not...)
I can admire Doan for his loyalty, but at the same time shake my head that he's wasted the best years of his career playing for a team that clearly wasn't going anywhere. It's just a bit of a ridiculous situation. The blame falls on Doan (slightly although everyone hates players that ask for trades) and the gm's (more the gm's fault) that never bothered to send him to a contender for some picks and prospects when they were already a lottery pick team. |

What if winning is overrated? I mean, just playing in the NHL is an amazing accomplishment. Plus, loyalty is rare and amazing. On top of it all, winning Bourque style is definitely cheesy and doesn't mean the same thing as winning with your own team. I do think it's time for him to move on, but when you elect people like Trump it shows how indecent and horribly....uh..."misinformed' people are, I find it impossible to criticize Doan.
