I am not sure if it was Ottawa who played good or if it was the fact that Vancouver is just such a bad team. Vancouver was also playing their 3rd game in 4 nights and it showed.
I posted this in the last comment section, but it bears repeating: I really like those lines. Ottawa is not a fast team, and those combinations maximized our speed. We had at least one speedy player on each line.
If they are going to play Boucher's system of only sending one guy in and being 'first on puck', those combos should probably stick for awhile. It makes sense to send the speedy guy in deep and have the other two try to create turnovers. It worked extremely well with the Smith-Pageau-Stone line (one of Smith/Pageau went in deep, and Stone stayed up high, picking off passes).
The Sens have one hellova weak schedule to start the year, so this is the perfect time to get their feet wet with Boucher's system. If they had a tough schedule to start, like last season, they could have been way behind the 8ball before they really got the system down.
Oh and I have to give props to Andy. He looked shaky as hell, but he got the job done.

Canucks and the coach had blamed a tough schedule and fatigue but I really don't buy that. I think the Sens were due for a breakout game (like I said in the last blog) and I think the Canucks were due to come back to reality of being a .500 team after a hot start. I thought Sens controlled the play in the third by a huge margin. Apart from the breakaway from Baertschi, it wasn't even really close.

The other lines also had their chances, with Mike Hoffman getting robbed by Ryan Miller's catching glove and his line with Kyle Turris and Tom Pyatt having a soid outing.
Scott Cullen seems to disagree:
Mike Hoffman, Kyle Turris, Tom Pyatt - It came in a 3-0 win at Vancouver, but the Senators trio was on the wrong end of the scoring chance count, getting outchanced 12-0, against the Canucks. Their overall possession stats (13 for, 21 against, 38.2 CF%), while not great, were a little better.

Didn't watch the game, but if Hoffman got robbed by Miller at one point, you'd think they'd be outchanced 12-1, haha. |

You mean the Toronto Sports Network could make up stats to bash the Sens!?!? |

Nah, he's right. That line was by far the least effective of the four last night and they definitely spent more time in their own end than any of the other lines.
I know he has 4 goals on the year, but Turris just doesn't seem right to me... I dunno... I know from experience that ankles can be a female dog and can take over a year to heal fully and a guy like Turris who is pretty soft and relies on his speed can't afford to lose a step.

I know, I know, Turris is Mr. Intangible, but honestly, he's been this way since the beginning. Off and on, off and on, inconsistent, always leaving you wanting more in the end. Like a modern day Radek Bonk or something. I hope he breaks out and you're right about the ankle, but I just don't see him ever getting over the hump. |

Nope.. I watched the whole game. They were by far the weakest of the lines. They looked OK off the rush, but they couldn't sustain pressure once they got into the zone and struggled in their own end.
The glorious chance that Hoffman had, btw, was between shifts.. he got the feed from Stone who isn't on that line.

Stone was really strong all night. Turris is playing head to head against the other teams #1 line and defence is his first priority. In the circumstances Turris is doing fine with his offensive numbers |
