the leafs have plenty of decent prospects up front - if they wouldn't trade Nylander or Marner for Lindholm then someone isn't doing their job objectively (or very well). |

Yup, I knew in my bones Leaf Nation would revert back to it's insanity this year. What the hell!!! Matthews and Marner have played 5 NHL games and really what has changed so much from the team EVERYBODY was patient with last year??? Yet, Steve Dangle is pulling his hair out and now rumours of trading their young prospects. Yup, let the short cutting begin once again. This is where this team and this fan base continually shoots itself in the face to the benefit of 29 other teams!!! - Kayakjack
Whoaaaa....relax, slugger. This is not the Leafs making these claims. This is Eklund. A dude who's never been correct about a trade rumour in the history of trade rumours

Or is it because they potentially value a package of Marner/Nylander + as more valuable than Lindholm? But you're probably right, no one is doing their job well. |

Matthews, Nylander and Marner are off limits. Nylander and Matthews have both created insanely good chemistry early. And I wouldn't trade Marner for Lindhom.

I think if the Leafs could trade Marner or Nylander for Lindholm they would be very stupid not to make that deal. Would be a case of over-valuing your young F prospects early, reminiscent of the Edmonton Oilers. |

Leafs send down Michalek and claim Ben Smith from Colorado... somethings not adding up. Unless they're calling up Kapenan or Froese? Or maybe a trade? |

Idk.
I'd be much more open to trading our 2017 1st then those guys; but only after the draft lottery. |

They may also have very high hopes for Dermott and Nielsen. |

Of course you would haha. That player will likely be 2+ years farther away than Marner/Nylander. Point is the Leafs would be silly not to deal from a position of strength to shore up their blue line long term. Leafs have Rychel, Kap, Brown, and others knocking on the door for top 9 forward opportunities so I would deal from a position of strength and agree to Marner for Lindholm. Although I suppose the Leafs are probably shopping for a RHD more-so and the Jets probably want a LHD back as opposed to a Marner/Nylander.
As the other poster mentioned, the Leafs may have high hopes for Dermott and Nielsen but I think those players are both a ways away (if ever) from being consistent top 4 D.

It's too bad the Ducks have a $4M backup in Bernier. Probably not helping with the Lindholm signing. |

I think the Ducks should take back Lupol and Gardiner.
(Not for Lindholm, just take them back and say sorry)

If Anaheim can't sign Lindholm, how are they going to sign Trouba. I can't see Anaheim motivated to do this at all.
In fact, the whole thing is noise. Lindholm will stay in Anaheim and Trouba in Winnipeg. - Aetherial
I see a three way deal. trouba to leafs lindholm to jets and jvr at half salary retained to da ducks[/img] |

That actually makes a lot of sense. Leafs would likely have to add another pick or prospect |

Gotta wonder if the Leafs will ever have room for players like Leipsic, Gauthier, Johnson, Rychel, Kapanen, Bracco, Soshnikov, Lindberg, etc...

Then I think the leafs should wait for a dman closer to the expansion draft.
Their 2017 1st and a forward prospect (other than marner/nylander) are pretty good trade chips to acquire a dman other teams may be looking to shed then.
I seriously doubt lindholm is available anyways.

Do the leafs need to improve their D? Yes.
Do they need to do it this year? No
There is a pretty decent batch of UFA's this summer headlined by Shattenkirk, and Burns. Absolutely no incentive for the leafs to deal a blue chip forward prospect this season, just to move up from the bottom ten, and to maybe become a middle of the road (11-20) team.
I know this is shocking to everyone, but the leafs are not going to win the cup this year.

I tend to agree with this.
Personally I see Marner as more valuable than Nylander, especially because he is draft exempt. What do you think? |
