Weird.. because I felt that Malkin was all over the ice last night. - j.boyd919
He was strong on the puck all night. I think he shows his frustration with line mates more visibly than Sid. Sheary was skating on banana peels last night. Penalties cost us the game as someone already mentioned.

yes but also no fleury most likely - martox
That's not guaranteed yet...but with regards to the Habs, Montoya has looked pretty sharp for the Habs anyway. Its the Habs home opener, a Pens back to back on the road very early in the season after a game that went to OT. It will be tough tonight. Hopefully the Pens can get off to strong start because they may fade a little towards the end of the game.

I think he's been a little of both. His skating isn't what it used to be, but he definitely has shifts where he goes into "machino" mode. I'm not sure he's capable of being the best player in the world any more. There were times when it could be argued he was better than Sid.

lol, it's been 3 games. I didn't get to watch the first 2 games, seems like both the WSH and ANA game the Pens got outplayed. But if he plays any like he did last night, Geno is gonna be fine. Dude's had a carousel of line mates in 3 games, still has a point per game. Still generating high danger scoring chances.
Seems like the Av's game was the only game the Pens controlled the play.

I blame all the dumb penalties, really messed up the flow of the game in the 2nd. Way to many 4v4 and 5v3 calls, especially this early in a season. Come on ref let them play
MAF was pretty good tonight...until OT. At least they got a point.
Cullen has played well so far this season...seems to be picking up his game in Sid's absence. Bonino too.
Maatta...12:49 of ice time...Schultz 15:23...I think that says it all right now as far as Maatta goes
Pens top power play unit started off well and ended ugly...kind of like that 6 total shots we had in the 3rd.
Avs have good speed. MacKinnon looks like he might be playing some of his best hockey to date. - icedog97
Does not look good for Maatta. What it shows is that Sullivan does expect guys to be accountable. I can accept the fact everyone has bad games but he is not earning his playing time. Dumo has passed him and is not looking back, plus Cole is challenging Maatta for playing time. Maybe that is why Pouliott made the team, maybe we see Pouliott tonight?

The officials will relax the penalty calls as the season goes on. It is easier to call things tight early then let them play than it is to go the other way. Plus if you call it close early, it is easier to return to that standard if things get somewhat out of hand later in the season.

yeah I could see that, but feels like we were robbed of a more open run and gun game bw these 2 teams, both could wheel.
Avs probably would have been blown out if they played a wide open 5v5 game so I cant complain they stole a win last night in the way they did.
But I just want to see MacKinnon wheel at all times, that kid is finally putting it all together
Easy to say in retrospect, I don' think on a double deflection you really "choose" how to play it. It's more reflexes and instinctive. - j.boyd919
His response to jab at it, or to try and poke Landeskog's stick (?) with his blocker hand was after the deflection off Letang and before the tip by Landeskog.
Maybe he wasn't in a good position to try and grab it with the glove (balance wise)...but if he could have he might have been able to at least disrupt the tip by Landeskog.

I didn't have a problem with them, I mean they are penalties. Pens were just playing undisciplined hockey. Av's took advantage, 2 peepers help. Pens couldn't stay outta the box, Kunitz in particular. Just sloppy play from early on in the season. Stick infractions are the worst.

Yeah, I just think when a puck redirects like that, your instincts is try to make the safe with the closest body part possible, punching at it with his blocker wasn't really the wrong move, Landeskog just got to it first. Good hand eye by Landeskog, just fluky thats all.
