Rooting for Maatta to return to rookie form in a big way. However, I wonder if this continues does the brass only decide to protect Letang and Dumo at D and protect an additional forward?
- Oneonta Penguin

I posed this question the other day. He's becoming a liability and as teams learn to exploit him his value to the team plummets. It's picking poison right now. Maatta's speed or DP's turnovers

This was a sloppy game in all zones for the Pens. MS needs to clean this garbage up immediately.

Sid can't come back soon enough.

Agreed. Sid is what makes this teams 4 line setup work, all the lines get better once he's back. The other lines play against weaker competition when he's in the lineup.

We took too many penalties and our PK didn't deliver. End of story.

MAF was pretty good tonight...until OT. At least they got a point.

Cullen has played well so far this season...seems to be picking up his game in Sid's absence. Bonino too.

Maatta...12:49 of ice time...Schultz 15:23...I think that says it all right now as far as Maatta goes

Pens top power play unit started off well and ended ugly...kind of like that 6 total shots we had in the 3rd.

Avs have good speed. MacKinnon looks like he might be playing some of his best hockey to date.

If you think MAF should have stopped that OT goal you are crazy.

Two 5 on 3's. Second one was a joke. Fehr was blatantly hooked down on the last PK. Reffing was awful for....both sides. Pens were pretty sloppy too.

Take the point and clean up some of those gaffes.

My two biggest disappointments... Maatta and Wilson.

I don't think that would let you protect an extra forward. I believe it's 7 and 3 or 8 skaters. I don't believe 8 and 2 is a choice. Maybe you protect cole and hope to lose salary. LVS might be willing to gamble on maata since they shouldn't be a cap team for a long time.

I agree. I haven't noticed Wilson at all in these three games and I notice Maatta when he is committing penalties and letting forwards breeze by him.

Ok maybe I'm being too hard...but he has that big glove on his hand for a reason. Maybe if he's a least trying to catch the puck instead of pushing at it with his blocker.

Yeah...I'd agree.

Wilson has not really been able to do anything yet...I thought for sure he'd make a positive impact. Only 3 games though

Right - by Letang I think...and coming toward him and he tried to blocker it...then Landeskog hit it again.

Do you guys not have to work in Switzerland or wherever you're from. Seems like you just refresh the hockeybuzz main page until a new blog comes up so you can say first in the comments. Did you somehow figure out a way to get a salary from your government for monitoring this site? If so good for you man, that's great work if you can find it.

nah I am just close to a computer at all time also I have a good guess when ryan is gonna put up the blog.

I don't think that in a devision like the Central Colorado will be able to do much on paper. Still think them and The Wild will be duking it out for last place. But I think they're definitely on track to becoming a good team. You simply can't keep a team with their level of high end talent down for long and now that Roy is gone we're gonna start to see them shine.

I'm ok with this. Sid's out, their star players were on point, and we got a point out of OT. This time last year we were winless and right now we have come away with points from every game and Fleury's back to being Fleury (you know damn well what I mean). We will be ok. Sullivan won't take this sitting down. Not his style. Sloppiness will get fixed and Crosby will be back soon.

Oh and Phil Kessel's on pace for 54 goals

Malkin has pissed me off for the first time this year. When the highest paid player on the ice is acting like its a game of shinny on a pond somewhere not gonna win many games. HBK passed up way to many shots trying to be fancy.

Martox has been McDavidededed! He sucks on a lollipop called a McDollypop!

Pretty sure I remember Mike Lange saying Geno was a force on the ice.

he was slow. he really was. maybe not THAT uninterested all the game but he for sure looked uninterested some of the time. I mean I have seen alot wrose from him ofc but he did not have that good of a game. rewatch the game if you want. he should have had that goal. he did interfere yes but it was not because of him that the goalie was unable to make a save.

Thats a big difference this year. That man holds them all accountable every game. Last year the Pens would looks crazy good after a loss under Sullivan so I'm really interested in seeing their response tonight.

Its not like last night was all bad. I thought the Pens looked great for periods of time. The penalties (and PK) were really their undoing and not just because of getting scored on but because it f's with the flow of the game...keeps a player like Malkin out of it for long stretches. The OT goal was a double bounce combo...tremendous luck for the Avs on that one.

I find after a cup winning season I'm a bit more relaxed watching the Pens games. I'm also pretty even keeled win or lose, especially this early in the season. They have 5 points in 3 games. Thats pretty damn good.

No Price tonight.

Yeah I see no reason to bring the sky out the heavens after last night. Sidney Crosby isn't even playing yet. That dude's gonna bring us to a different level and we're already pretty good.
