Well about 1/3 of those players had memorable NHL careers.
Clearly Veeeezeee is destined for greatness. |

I ran into Nazem Kadri at Canadian Tire the other day. Dude likes the self-checkout....

Yawn, every time theirs a college UFA the media whip it up to a frenzy. CTF down boys, although he's done very well up to this stage in his career he hasn't played a single NHL game yet. |

Nice blog.
Some statistics and relations to nhl success based off the time period would hammer home your point.
Did Vessy score like Eichel and Johnny?
I agree this seems extremely overblown. |

Vesey scored slightly better as a 19 year old forward than Hanifin did as a 17 year old defenseman. |

well they didn't have to use a draft pick to acquire him, nor any assets to get him in a trade so yeah, he's free like a free agent. |

Dude he's a middle 6 NHL talent that teams can acquire on a cost friendly ELC. Nobody has ever said that he is going to be a top tier NHLer. The hype is the ability to acquire the player not the players ceiling. Chill out you sound like a hater. |

Vesey: 46pts in 33 GP as a 22/23 year old (2015-16)
Eichel: 71pts in 40 GP as a 17/18 year old (2014-15)
Gaudreau: 80pts in 40GP as a 19/20 year old (2013-14)
LeBlanc: 50pts in 42 GP as a 22/23 year old (2012-13)
So, closest, most comparable guy point/age-wise is LeBlanc and he's now TEARING it up in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga! |

I don't think you're wrong at all Peter. I've been saying since the reports of the Isles being in on vesey that we see far more busts than booms in these situations and that he's an unproven prospect.
It'll be interesting to see if he can live up to a fraction of the hype. I certainly would not have been comfortable to see him on the Isles top line if thats the kind of guarantee he needed to sign somewhere.

Also dont believe he was the rightful winner of the Baker. Should of went to Connor. But the hype machine prevailed there. |

Ya, based on the stats that were shown for players comparable he may turn out to be nothing but a bust. But we don't know! Connor should have had the Hobey Baker award but really who cares?
Kyle Connor 38GP 35 goals, 26 assists for a total of 71 points (1.87 ppg)
Jimmy Vesey 33GP 24 goals, 22 asists for 48 points (1.45 ppg)
Connor has stats that compare with Eichel (this is a comparison to say he's going to be Eichel but a good comparison)
My best guess is that he will put up 30 points in New York next year and play on the 3rd and 4th line after 20 games. |

You're wrong.
You say it in your opening. It's a story because there's absolutely nothing else going on right now. He's a decent player that most teams want so of course people are going to talk about. No one is saying he's going to light the NHL on fire but he's got s good chance to be a solid second or third liner.
His offensive numbers aren't as great as some of the others that people are comparing him to, but he's a much better two-way player as well. You're going to call G
He is also almost as free as you can get. Most players on ELC are 18 year olds and a far greater risk to have on your roster. He's more seasoned and teams have a much better idea about what kind of player he is. How exactly is a GM wanting him on their team dinosaur thinking? He's done enough to show he's probably going to be a decent NHler. |

free asset. probably develops into a 20g/50pt 2nd liner |

just gonna ignore Veseys 32g/58pt in 37 game season as a 21 year old?
1.57 ppg put him closer to Eichel (1.78) than Leblanc (1.19)
that would pretty much tear apart your argument though, wouldnt it?

Connor should have been the third freshman ever to win the Hobey Baker. He was totally robbed in my eyes. The reason maybe is that he was a freshman and the committee didn't feel like giving him the award for that very reason. I personally think Connor will put up huge numbers in the NHL. This is a guy who has a chip on his shoulder as he wanted to be in the US Developmental Program as well but was told he wasn't good enough. The Jets have an outstanding prospect here flying under the radar again. |

Connor should have gotten the Baker. The argument I hear most is he was on a better team. I don't care, he put up 71 points as a freshman. The Vesey hype train had an affect on that decision, its a single season award, his past seasons are irrelevant. He at best projects to be a 2nd liner, in reality probably becomes a 3rd liner on a playoff team. Sure, NYR gained a asset for nothing minus a ELC contract, and that is great. The player is way over hyped. Ask the Oilers how they feel about winning the Justin Schultz lottery... August is a slow month. |

Seems like a bad hockey desicion for him. I think any of the other teams would of been a better hockey desicion. The rangers are going downhill. |
