Picks will be a protected player from the draft. I doubt Vegas will take varlys contract.
Barrie will get a 2 year deal. Unless the long term deal is reached. Lots of people said they were getting closer, then hit a snag... so I'm still hoping for a long term deal. Grigo I'm sure will get a deal. Probably for 1.2 to 1.5m |

not when they post Varly instead - DDM-Coga
That is going to be the most interesting thing to watch this season. If the expansion draft were today, I think they'd protect Varly. He's more of a guarantee and they know what they're getting while Picks is a little more of a question mark. The big test will be Picks play when Varly pulls his groin again next year. The injury history is really the only reason I would consider not going with Varly as a starter.
Varly protected- 100% that Picks is taken. Perfect backup for an up and coming team
Picks protected- 60-75% that Varly is taken. There will be so many good goaltenders. If you take Varly he has to be your starter because of the term. It could also be pretty awkward for the team if they decide not to protect Varly and he isn't taken,

I honestly don't think they will go after either of the Avs goalies, too much still out there for goalies.

I don't see that many teams with 2 solid goalies like the Avs have and most of them will also have better skaters available than Colorado. I myself would be surprised to see Varly and Picks with the team starting next season due to trade or expansion. Either way it's probably a better discussion for another day. So much can change between now and next year.

I didn't mean to say there are no other options. All 3 of those teams are going to have some really good skaters left that it's going to be hard to pass. Would you rather have Varly and one of Pitts depth players or Fleury and one of Col depth players? I'm too lazy to get names but I think it's safe to say that all 3 of those teams are deeper. I hope I'm wrong though cause I love me some Varly and Picks. |

You hit the nail on the head. The salary of Picks means he is gone in an expansion draft regardless of whether he would be a starter or not if he is not protected. Varly has a bad contract hanging over his head and I don't see him being protected or picked up because of the contract. The 2 year deal was to see if Picks can deliver for more than one year. If he can, he becomes the starter even as early as the end of the season, but certainly by next year and Varly will be traded, released, or selected in the expansion draft.

if he goes to arb, I think the will be awarded 6.5m and they will take 2 years for him.
I just hope they can hammer out a 6mx6 deal before hand |

Based on existing contractual specifics does anybody have a list yet of players who are currently protected from and eligible for the Vegas draft from the Avs?
I know things could change in the next year but based on NM clauses and the other rules I'm guessing it's possible to come up with a preliminary list... |

I believe they will keep Duchene, Landeskog, Mackinnon, Johnson, Barrie, Beach(NTC), either Picks or Varly. Players like Zadarov, Bigras and Rants will all be covered with there entry level deals |

Beau has a no movement clause, I believe ej does too. NTC are not protected from my understanding. Bigras might not need to be protected because he hasn't played two season over a certain amount same with rant |

Zads needs to be protected. Bigras and Rants are exempt
Dutch
Mack
Landy
Grigo/Soderberg
EJ (NMC)
Beacuh (NMC)
Barrie
Zads
Varly/Picks
those will be the 2 decisions they will have to make on who to protect over who |

I'm not sure how players without a contract work with the expansion. I'm hoping they're also protected cause then we would not have to protect zads. Then we could protect
Dutch
Mack
Landy
Soderberg
Comeau
Colburne
Griggs
Ej
Barrie
Beau
Picks
Ime going to assume we would protect Soderberg over grigs just because he's a center, and picks over vary because of contract and I think picks is closer to the starter job and will have a improved d in front of him to help him succeed |
