I'd like to see a Dale Weiss, Lee Stepniak type signing for the #3RW spot. Sens need more depth. If Hoffman is traded for a "package" deal I'm going to be (frank)ing pissed.
I think we'll see Hoff & Ceci signed today & a depth Dman signed. |

get a Hoffman, Duchene pairing |

Tough to make a splash when your GM is given rolls of quarters to use for his free agent shopping by the team's shallow pocketed owner. |

There are deals out there though. Yak and E Kane could go extremely cheap and have huge up sides if they work out.
Would have to keep Kane in check at all times though |

Brandon Pirri seems like he would be a good signing. Young and only a season removed from a 20+ goal campaign. Part of me thinks there's something wrong with him. Traded for peanuts at the deadline and now not qualified? But if everyone was on board with Connoly, Pirri could also be a decent signing for a 3rd line.
Sounds like no big splashes are to be had for the Sens. I really do feel that we need another decent weapon in the top 3 or 6 to be competitive. I think this current roster is (assuming our RFAs are resigned) is a playoff roster, but I don't see it knocking off the Caps, Pens, or Lightning if we get there. Can't just look at your own roster and say it's pretty good. You have to compare it to legit teams to have any shot. |

Yost says Wiercioch signing with the Avs.
Good luck to him. Always had a soft spot / high hopes for Wiercioch, but he needs a fresh start.
Kostka resigns...I'm okay with that. He was good in bingo. Fine as a call up time to time. |

I dunno. A lot of these names and values are inflated. I wouldn't have minded Staal @ $3.5M, but he wouldn't have wanted to come to Ottawa. |

Why? The only guy who wasn't overpaid, either in term, dollars, or both is okposo.......i'm happy they haven't been involved in any of this so far. |

Well right now Yak and Kane could be had for basically nothing.
You would think as a new GM he would want to do something to establish himself. Doing nothing for two years clearly isn't getting us a cup |

He's fine as a depth left shot D. He'd be a short term fill in until guys like Chabot can take up larger roles.
Yak and Kane haven't been picked up by anyone despite their supposed availability. It's possible the low cost is just rumor. I wouldn't want to over pay on getting guys like that. |

I don't think the cup will ever come to Ottawa in our lifetime. Melnyk is clearly too frugal to ever throw caution to the wild, and make a splash. The status quo will be the norm, as long as melnyk's the owner. |

All indications Hamhuis is going to the Stars, so I'm not sure why it is being discussed. Is the implication that the Sens are still in the running? |

Would've been solid, Sens probably wouldn't match Stars desperation |

They retain who they need to. They'll be 5-7 mil from the cap. Who would you like to overspend on? |

I'm hoping Hoffman + Ceci leaves them with $9-$10M in space.
With the expansion pay out, I'd like to hope that means a modest addition at least.
I can understand the need to save some cap space to resign guys like Smith, Pageau, Lazar, and Zibanejad next year but there has to be SOMEONE out there that can be had for a decent price....maybe not today though.
Hamuis 3.75...a lot for 3rd pairing guy. |

That contract was actually reasonable for great depth. He could play anywhere within the six(EK,Ceci,Wideman) |

I wouldn't say the value is UNreasonable, but if he is playing on the bottom pair it is less of a good price, but the Sens do have the space. I wouldn't have hated it. However, presumably the Sens would have had to offer more.
Moving on. Carle, Tyutin, and Seidenberg are some other left shot D names out there still.
Damn. Wish the Sens coulda gotten Connolly for $800,000.
Worth giving him a shot on #3 RW. |
