Actually I found "Ihateallofu's" (Oiler Fan) 1st post on page 1 to be quite inciteful and intelligent but he/she got carried away a bit later.

I agree with JJ here regarding McKenzie. I've talked about it over in the Pens blog many times, that McKenzie, Dregger and the other "insiders" arnt the word of God in hockey. They are wrong just as often as they're right. I live in Canada and I see these guys on sport centre and sports net almost daily.

With regards to Malkin though; I think rumours regarding him frustrate Pens fans because this happens every. Single. Summer. Every summer since his first season with the Pens. People who don't follow the Pens closely saying that Malkin wants out or to be "the man". It's simply not true. He dismisses this every year. Genuinely dismisses it. After this cup win he posted a picture on instagram of him and Sid with the Cup with hashtag "best friends". He loves Pittsburgh and playing for the Pens. If he really wanted to be the "the man" would he actually be in Chicago with Toews, Kane or Keith there?.... No, he wouldn't.

I was a little surprised at the response actually

Not from JJ readers. You gotta expect posters not liking what they see as some sort of outsider attack on home town/team/writer. Typical hb mentality. No stress there

But I thought JJ would respond with something concrete.
Really didn't try and and ruffle feathers too much.

The thing that is killing the hawks is the depth and cost of the core.

The hawks have 6 players over $5m (and an 7th on the way in Breadman next year). Those 7 currently cost $50m.

I'm not going to go through all the teams to research this, but I'll bet there's not another team close to that cost tied up in so few players. Just look at Pens, for instance. Their top 7 add to about $46m. The difference between $46 and $50m is approximately LADD (replacing a $1m Rockford roster filler with a $5m Ladd costs $4m in cap space).

This heavy commitment to such a large and expensive top end is killing us.

And we're discussing making that worse???

Even Malkin for Seabrook would make our core cost $2m worse than it is today!

Aside from a post that really adds nothing, it is one of the most attractive and cleanest cities in the United States FWIW.

Guys, gotta get some other stuff done. Everybody play nice. Great dialogue so far esp. with most Pens fans.

As far as more "realistic" activity, I heard today could be a big day on several fronts for the Hawks because they now have a solid cap number to plan around.

I would def watch the Shaw situation. I think the two camps are far apart and Hawks can't budge so a rights swap could happen sooner rather than later.

Will check in later.

- John Jaeckel

Wonder if Shaw would get sent to a team like Anaheim for Manson and a pick or the canucks for A. Pedan and a pick. Figure Shaw plays the same aggressive style as both of these teams.

To this day Malkin still can't speak proper English. His agent can't speak Russian. I don't even know how he could ever request a trade out. lol

JJ: No rumors to be reported.
Board: C'mon JJ, get on the rumors, we're bored! When's something going to happen.

JJ: Rumor is....
Board: You're an idiot, a hack! You're sources are crap.

Reasonable response I guess. D@mned if you do, d@mned if you don't. I appreciate the rumors not matter how likely/unlikely. It gets us talking about hockey. Call me crazy, but that seems like something that should be done on a hockey board.

It's rarely a question of "want" with these Hawks moves, it's usually a question of that ugly matter called the salary cap.

If Shaw wants north of $3M it probably would cost the Hawks someone higher on the depth chart in order to fit under the cap.

It seems like Malkin's name comes up every year... It's not a stretch to believe that other GM's would ask about his availability.
However Rutherford might be the most open GM in the NHL. He can't help himself but talk about what he's working on without spilling the beans. He says Malkin isn't being traded he means it. When asked about Fleury he said I would love to keep him but it's a business and he has to listen. My money is on Fleury going not Malkin.

Thanks.

Like i said eariler, i don't doubt Bowman heard the rumor of Malkin wanting out and looked into it. I just think that it was shot down quickly by JR.

The "kicking the tires" rumor was blown way out of proportion.
