Gretzky was traded, so anyone can be traded, doesn't mean it will happen, but anyone could be. |

John, out of all the bloggers on this site, I have learned to respect your opinion best. There are too many, including your "boss" Ek who are just spitballing most of the time.
I am looking forward to hearing more about this possibility of Malkin moving.
Now, my question to you is: Have you heard any more on the Crawford to Buffalo for Lehner and Deslaurier? The two year extention for Deslaurier has to be extremely enticing to the Hawks because Stan won't have to talk contract with him and he is under $1M per year. Would an additional draft pick (maybe a third, or even a second) make this a better trade possibility?
This hasn't even been a rumor on the Buffalo blogs yet, even from Garth who just makes up things all the time. |

I just don't see what the Hawks can send Pitt. Malkin comes with a monster cap hit, can the Hawks really afford his cap without touching there core players, one would have to assume Panarin would be involved. |

I'm sure Chicago reached out to Pittsburgh, it doesnt mean either team is really serious about a deal. By the sounds of it Rutherford isnt even listening, which I would believe.
The fact of the matter is that any trade involving Malkin going to the Hawks starts with Duncan Keith. Exactly why this trade never goes down. Malkin for Keith & Anisimov... Id take it.

IMO the only way this happens is if there is another deal made involving Crawford in order the have cap next year for 72. |

Another imaginary tale debuked:
PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE: Jenn Menendez reports Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said there’s no truth to a rumor that emerged yesterday claiming the Chicago Blackhawks were interested in acquiring center Evgeni Malkin. “None. We’re not looking to move him. I did not get an inquiry from any team,” Rutherford said. Malkin also has a full no-movement clause, but Rutherford said he’s not a trade option regardless of his trade clause.

Appreciate the insight into the process, etc. JJ! This is an interesting blog.
If nothing else, yesterday's rumor led to some fun discussions! |

If Malkin truly want's out (which I don't believe), he'll need to name several teams. I don't see the type of assets in Chicago that Pittsburgh would want. Ruth would have to insist on a good young center in return. AA or Kruger isn't that player.
Chicago would be one of the last teams I'd deal with. Adding Malkin could make them the team to beat next year and I'm sure the Penguins have no interest in helping them get there. |

I agree, i said Panarin (and more) because even mentioning Kieth's name in a trade just sounds plain dumb. |

JJ,
Would you take that trade if you were Bowman? Being, Malkin for AA and Kruger. It would take more wouldn't it? |

Thanks JJ! I think dealing Krugs would be easier if Danault was still in town. Adding Malkin to a top six featuring panarin, toews, kane, and hossa seems like an nhl16 trade. I think it would kill center depth and still dont know how they fill out their other holes.
I will say that stan has been a wiz with the cap but i dont see how he makes this work. Cant just roll 2 lines. Maybe they are trying to follow the pens model and sprinkle youth with low cost forwards.
Thanks for keeping us up to date with what you can.
Any word on Shawzer or CC? I expect Ladd's rights to be moved for a pick before the draft. If (huge if) the hawks get malkin i think CC is gone, shaw is gone and Ladd is gone. |

Thing is, Mackenzies words should be given far more credence than eks or any other hb writers. He's earned it. It's not a slight, but it's a fact.
And just cause you can name some instances where gms have lied, that still dwarfs the amount of times the 'insiders' have been way off about a potential move.
Again, the prudent move here is to go with the latter
And furthermore, your Jim nill reference is nothing more than anecdotal. It doesn't actually prove anything.
In terms of plausibility, I think that's just what the so called insiders do. Take a scenario that isn't totally out of the realm of possibility, apply a little logic to it, and then throw poop against the wall and hope it sells some copy.
But again, there's no solid truth to the rumour beyond that at this point. Absolutely none.
And judging by who has to gain from rumours like this, as well as the staggering amount of times these 'rumours' don't occur for whatever reason, it just makes sense to disregard it. Or at worst wait till there's something more concrete than guesswork and anecdotal evidence
End of the day, the rumour game is mostly bs. Without even getting into the laughable scenarios that insiders try and sell about how they got the info while forgetting the logistics of gms not actually allowing it unless they want it out there, one just has to use a little common sense to know that this rumour, like the vast majority of them, is probably without an ounce of validity

Thanks JJ. Great insight.
As for the deal... there is no way the hawks can have 3 players making $30M+.
Can't work. 19 or 88 would have to go the other way. Not. Going. To. Happen.

Panarin and Keith for Malkin?
That would be a great deal for Pittsburgh. I'll leave it at that. |
