Aside from a post that really adds nothing, it is one of the most attractive and cleanest cities in the United States FWIW.

Agreed but there is a lot of gun violence here these days.

OK, but I also seriously doubt at this point he'd tell anyone they were talking Geno with another team.

Please don't tell me every move Rutherford makes is transparent and the press is made aware of it. It's not.

Please.

- John Jaeckel

I'm not saying he informs the press on his personnel moves. What I'm saying is he doesn't lie about things when asked a direct question. If that report is right.....about him saying there's no truth to Malkin being moved, I'd take that to the bank.

I wouldn't be shocked if the actual story went like this:

"Hey Stan, there's a rumor that Malkin wants out of Pittsburgh, and one place he would like to play is Chicago"

Bowman - "Man, Malkin would look great in a Hawks sweater, hell, I'd give up AA and Kruger, among others for him. Let me give JR a call"

"Hey JR, are the rumors true that Malkin is looking for a trade??"

JR - "nope"

End of conversation

- cap1681

You know what? That may be 100% correct, or something close to that. No argument from me.

That's fair. I respect your opinion.

Man JJ. The hate is strong with the village idiots coming on the Hawks/your blog.
- Dannyboy

Some of these Pittsburgh and Montreal guys are actually alright and discuss good hockey. Other posters are just ridiculous sometimes...Especially today.

Guys, gotta get some other stuff done. Everybody play nice. Great dialogue so far esp. with most Pens fans.

As far as more "realistic" activity, I heard today could be a big day on several fronts for the Hawks because they now have a solid cap number to plan around.

I would def watch the Shaw situation. I think the two camps are far apart and Hawks can't budge so a rights swap could happen sooner rather than later.

Will check in later.

JJ,
Would you take that trade if you were Bowman? Being, Malkin for AA and Kruger. It would take more wouldn't it?
- BURDA13

You'd have to think.
-JJ

No. Because that trade doesn't resolve anything cap-wise. If that trade occurred, Hawks would also have to trade Craw to make the cap work. And couldnt fit Shaw.

So the result of that trade would be:

Lose:
AA
Krug
Craw
Shaw

Gain:
Malkin
pick for Craw trade
minor pick for Shaw rights trade

So to analyze that trade proposal, how do we all feel about Malkin and a pick for AA, Krug, Craw and Shaw?

I said it before, and I'm saying it again.....The Hawks are looking to trade Kane for Malkin. Kane has been a PR nightmare since about day 1. Remember last summer? When the season started, fans Boood him. Drunk pictures? Cab driver? Etc. Kanes trade value is at an all time high. I believe Stan is trying to squeeze out a pick or two also in the deal. Plus , we save a mil or so.

This trade would leave the Hawks with the deepest C depth in the NHL. Toews, Malkin, AA, and Kruger. We will just have to find some forwards to play with these guys. An F is much easier to find than a C. I believe that the Bread Man, could some day be Kane lite.

Question - Other than trying to control the story or narrative being talked about (ex: leaking a contract offer to take the onus off an organization and on to the player), what motives do sources have to leak information?

I don't mean you specifically, but more in general. What do these sources get out of sharing information about if they've had conversations, etc.? What's in it for them?

It's actually pretty funny when you compare Ruths style to Ray Shero. Shero never gave you anything. He was more secretive than the CIA.

Ruth on the other hand, I sometimes wonder how much he's had to drink before having a discussion with the press.

Absolutely. There is no denying it whatsoever. It'd probably help if the police weren't treated like dogpoop all the time, weren't demonized by the press and community activists constantly and they actually had support from the city's "powers-that-be." I apologize B. I'm not insulting you or trying to get political.

Sooooo that cap is $73M....

This is the type of trade I would LOVE to see. Swapping two superstars. That would be very interesting.

Now if you want to spitball a Malkin trade, Seabrook would start to make sense from a cap perspective.

Let's look at Seabrook and Kruger for Malkin and a nice, cost controlled D

GMs deny stuff that turns out to be valid . . . all . . . the . . .time. Not gonna debate it. Good luck recruiting support for your POV.
- John Jaeckel

Recruiting support? That's where I win.
I could probably send link after link after link of bs rumours in less than 5 minutes.

If this is the brand you're trying to sell, the entire blog makes far more sense now.

I was totally rational and logical initially.

But you've just gotten silly now.

You can't debate it, there's mistakes and bs rumours claimed every single day on a gazillion different websites and a gazillions different channels

It's laughable that you're actually trying to draw a comparison here to sell your version of events. You've even kinda round about slagged Mackenzies insider credibility to prop up your own.
I was sorta under the impression you had more integrity than this.

I hope this is not true about Shaw, but, sadly it probably is.

Really appreciate the frankness of the original blog. Definitely one of your best, and probably describes in more detail than most of us know, the perils of being a blogger.

Finally, I would think that if the hypothetical Malkin deal actually happened, a couple of Hawks prospects are headed the other way, especially if they are defensemen since that is probably what the Pens actually need.

I read a long article (I wish I could remember where it was) about why this happens in the NFL. Essentially, sources are making trades. They give info to insiders when they can, and in return those insiders will make the leaks that they want when they need them leaked.

Insiders also can give them information BEFORE it becomes public. Adam Schefter, for instance, may hear that Team A is going to make their QB available for trade. Schefter remembers that his source at Team B gave him a solid tip a few weeks back, and knows that Team B is looking for a QB. He lets that source know that info before he makes it public, so Team B can be the first to call Team A.

There's also probably a good bit of it that's just wanting to be the guy who knows stuff.

But Pittsburgh would immediately lose the center depth they have. I don't see Bonino becoming a great number 2 for us.

That's not happening. The Hawks already lack depth on D and trading away someone that eats a lot of minutes only makes that a much bigger problem.
