The more I think about this Malkin thing.. not sure if its worth it to yard sale multiple guys to bring him in. AA does a nice job at the #2 C and adds other skills (PK/Net Presence) to the mix. I cant see the Hawks moving Kruger after Danault was recently traded to the Habs. Plus I would really like to keep CC. If we cant fine, but the guy knows how to win and appears to be hitting his prime. - z1990z
My thoughts too. I just don't see how you can ice an even remotely competent roster with all the people they'd have to move out to bring Malkin in |

My point was Shaw's rights aren't worth much...That was the question I responded to.
They will absolutely qualify Shaw. If Shaw's signs a deal then his value goes up, because there is cost certainty for the acquirer. - Al
They have to qualify him at a minimum $2.5 million per. What if they end up having to pay him that? |

Honestly, either Lovejoy or Gagner would be low risk high reward players for the Hawks. Gagner played some of his best games against the Hawks. As long as he makes a million or less, I'd have no problem with Gagner. - KMFDMLight
Since Gagner was Kane's linemate during his very successful OHL season, maybe they would work well again as a pair if Panarin moves up to line 1.

kwolf, I didn't want to bring up the Bears because this was exactly my thinking. In fact, I was interviewed in a "man-on-the-street" when I worked in downtown Chicago, back when the Bears faltered and just before Ditka got launched. I guess I have a thing against head coaches in Chicago.
My attitude then towards the Dit (and now towards Q) is pretty much the same. See ya! Now I know everyone will jump on me about who do you replace Q with -- well, we had that guy and he just won a CUP in Pittsburgh.
Bottom line, the years are piling up (on some guys particularly) and for the others, these are years NOT to be wasted! - savvyone-1
Q and Ditka both have similar traits, VERY stubborn. However, Q did 'stay the course' somewhat as compared to Ditka. Ditka is revered because he was a Bear player and did a lot of good things as a coach after Halas hired him. The problem with Ditka (and this happened to Jim Valvano, the basketball coach at NC State) was he became a rock star and lost his way. In my mind, Ditka and Valvano were brilliant coaches, caught up in their own hubris and they fell hard. Some say the game may have passed Ditka buy...I don't buy it, his style was EXACTLY like Bill Cowher....Ditka ceased being a coach when he became a Saturday night parody skit then made SOME
....
...
HORRIFIC decisions that lead to the demise of a potential Bears dynasty....
We got our Hawks dynasty in my view. Sure, there could have been one more Cup in there, but 3 in this era is still pretty damn good.
Still, would like to see the Hawks get back to under the radar, practical, prudent moves to get this team situated. |

Darth, what's Panarin's bonus for winning the Calder and counts against the 16/17 cap, 3-4 mil?

I think more, depending on the likelihood of Shaw signing with the club. - John Jaeckel
Better to sign and trade I would think.
If the chatter is correct they are shopping Krueger and I can't see both being gone.

They could afford it that but with next 5 guys there would be a pinch. It's not good but not as bad as the summer of 2010.
Powers broke it down and I retweeted his article today.

Thought so
Doesn't make much sense to let two of very experienced bottom six guys walk. |

That might be interesting. If they're moving them (among others) just to bring Malkin here I really think that's a mistake |

I just wonder if the signing Rasmussen and the rumor yesterday has someone assuming that means Kruger is on the block.
I found it odd that suddenly I heard Kruger and AA's names in a rumor (form a credible source) for the firs time all summer.
I will just say this, Dennis Rasmussen is a game hockey player but he is a 4th liner, SLOOOWWWWWW, and kinda weak in the dot. He is not a Kruger "replacement" by a long stretch.
So I am now wondering if the Hawks might have something in the works for a center. |

As close to being on the Hawk payroll without actually drawing a check. The Hawks wanted the Kruger being shopped info out if Kuc is reporting it.
Don't know if something big is brewing but a lotta chatter going on. Malkin, AA, Shaw, Kruger, asking Crow what he thought about waiving his NMC last year?

Not gonna lie, the idea of Malkin on the Hawks is enticing and to me, very unrealistic. But to mortgage off more young a guys, including Kruger and Shaw (supposedly)... It's just killing team depth. This team needs to build on a bit more team depth and add an extra LW. |

Someone please give me some selling points on Sam Gagner.
Bust. Not my type of player. At all.
Top 6 "style" player with bottom 6 ability.
And the last thing the Hawks need is another under-sized, non-physical perimeter forward.
PASS. |

YO ZZ, I don't think there is any right any wrong right now...... What I think is StanBowPops&Mcd are like a guy who hasn't paid his mortgage in a year heard the Sheriff is on his way. So he pays his bill and is doing all he can to make sure that never happens again.

I haven't read all the back pages, has anyone posted a hypothetical full roster that is under the salary cap with Malkin on the team? I just don't see how they make it worth without half the team being ELCs |

Kinda makes the Malkin rumor seem more plausible, huh? I still really hope it's not true - maria_wyeth
SB is having an epiphany - he realizes that Kruger's contract is garbage and trying to move it before the NMC kicks in 7/1 (and he should be doing the same with 7) and Shaw isn't worth $3M+. The problem is, other teams are probably not interested in Kruger at that number either. The encouraging thing is he is seeing the errors of last year's debacle and is being proactive with the draft looming... |

And it seems even more plausible if you look at the fact the Hawks now have options at center with the signings of Moose, Schmaltz and Johnson. |
