You just don't want to bring the Vanek profile and on ice demeanor into the Hawks dressing room. Sure he can put the puck in the net and the rest of the time he dogs it out there until he comes up with a boo boo on his baby finger and then sits out for 15 games. Shaw would punch his lights out after playing with him for one shift. And then Q would urinate on him.
- RickJ

I guess Vanek is out.

Point is Shaw has no leverage...Unless an offer sheet comes in...None.
Everything else is people trying to understand the process and segment it.
Shaw has no arbitration eligibility either.

I'm not saying to take the 7th rounder.

- Al

So IMO SB should QO him now and sit back. If there is some biz the agent can drum up, fine. And SB shouldn't get less than a 3rd in a pre-7/1 deal. That's why I was surprised at your 7th rounder statement, that's all.

My point was Shaw's rights aren't worth much...That was the question I responded to.

They will absolutely qualify Shaw. If Shaw's signs a deal then his value goes up, because there is cost certainty for the acquirer.

Savvy, Q's had better years. It happens. Give it a chance, I am.
- Mr Ricochet

Yes he has Mr R; I'm just frustrated seeing the best years of 88 and 19 (along with prime years for 2, 7 and 81) get flushed down the toilet because we have a coach with a bad head case.

Just as in business, the very best leaders are the ones that surround themselves with talent far better than them and then allow them to put that talent to good use. 1st, I don't think Q has surrounded himself with the best coaches (maybe save Waite) and he certainly doesn't give them free rein (from what we know -- and even from what's been spoken. Dineen being interviewed and asked about the PP said something to the effect of, 'doesn't matter because ultimately, it's Q's PP and we're going to run it the way he wants.')

Yes, we have 3 CUPS in 7 years. Yes, the CAP is a b!tch and we've had to unload lots of very good players because of it.

But in spite of those things, I just feel we're pissing away the best years of some of the best contemporary NHL players. We may look back on this era and say, man, in the xx number of years Kane, Toews, Keith, Seabrook and Hossa were at the top of their game, we shoulda/coulda had xx CUPS in xx years.

This is how I feel. I think the Hawks left a lot on the table in 2014 and 2016 and now the team just isn't as deep or good, but look at it this way, even with the bungling by Bowman and Q's stubbornness, it pales in comparison to the Chicago Bears of the 1980s with idiot McCaskey and 2nd clown in charge Mike Ditka who could win just 1 championship with a defense that rivaled the Steelers of the 1970s. I guess we should be giddy over 1 Super bowl, because "at least they got to that one and won it"....phooey. That thing became a joke...the Blackhawks, while not doing things that great anymore, are WAY better than that program was.

Moose coming back is a nice boost for the bottom 6. So down the middle its 19, 15, 22 and big 70!! Not to bad at all.

kwolf, I didn't want to bring up the Bears because this was exactly my thinking. In fact, I was interviewed in a "man-on-the-street" when I worked in downtown Chicago, back when the Bears faltered and just before Ditka got launched. I guess I have a thing against head coaches in Chicago.

My attitude then towards the Dit (and now towards Q) is pretty much the same. See ya! Now I know everyone will jump on me about who do you replace Q with -- well, we had that guy and he just won a CUP in Pittsburgh.

Bottom line, the years are piling up (on some guys particularly) and for the others, these are years NOT to be wasted!

Prohockeyrumors just came out with their top-50 NHL free agents and their predictions on where they will sign, and they have Ben Lovejoy (2-years; $2.1 million) and Sam Gagner (1-year; $1 million) signing with the 'Hawks.

Obviously it's just for fun and no one really has any guesses on who will sign where, but I wouldn't be opposed to a Lovejoy signing. He logged valuable minutes for the Pens and think he'd be a serviceable stay-at-home third pairing d-man.

Gagner on the other hand ... isn't really worth much of a look unless it was a PTO for training camp.

huge difference. Hawks have won 3 Cup dealing with a hard salary cap and the Bears tore themselves apart from the inside out. And the McCaskeys didn't want to pay to keep the team together.

Hey Savvy hope you're well...I know we go down this road every so often and I'm in complete agreement as far as this team coulda shoulda won a couple more here.
You know I tend to more towards as Kwolf put it - Bowman the bungler than Q the stubborn one, but they've both not helped this team at times...As far as Ditka the great windbag - we all know that Bears team should have won 3 or 4 in a row...easily with that talent.

Thrilled they got Moose back and at a nice cap hit...would like to see Soupy back as well. As Mr. R points out he's still skating 20 minutes a game. Get him for a deal and that really solidifies the bottom of the defense with Kempny already on board.

Honestly, either Lovejoy or Gagner would be low risk high reward players for the Hawks. Gagner played some of his best games against the Hawks. As long as he makes a million or less, I'd have no problem with Gagner.

The more I think about this Malkin thing.. not sure if its worth it to yard sale multiple guys to bring him in. AA does a nice job at the #2 C and adds other skills (PK/Net Presence) to the mix. I cant see the Hawks moving Kruger after Danault was recently traded to the Habs. Plus I would really like to keep CC. If we cant fine, but the guy knows how to win and appears to be hitting his prime.

Yo THawk, although I don't totally agree with Rick about Vanek, other than he is one laaaaazy SOB, he's the kind the Hawks are going to have to unearth and revive going forward 2-3-4-5-6 years until a total rebuild happens. Maybe, probably, Vanek ain't one of those guys but he's the "kind" of guy they need to hit on. A Gagner type too.

Lovejoy's stock will never be higher but for 1 yr at 1-2 mil I think Campbell is a better option. I watch the Cats a good bit and Campbell can still skate. .. If he ends up a Hawk the D becomes so much better.
