I might be off, but I thought someone indicated Shaw was looking for $3M+/year. What type of return would the Hawks hope to get if they trade his RFA rights before the draft?
- phantasmo

Not much...Shaw's agent is able to talk to any team he wants to now.

Given that, what should they expect to get back if they have no intention of meeting his "demands"?
- phantasmo

If he gets traded, I would think the return would be greater than what the Hawks get if he was given an offer sheet: https://en.wikipedia.org/.../Offer_sheet#Compensation

Tracy - In more news, #Blackhawks agree to terms with forward Dennis Rasmussen on a one-year contract.

Moose is back!

- JRoenick97

One year term! Interesting.

Edit: Good move. I am intreaguing by maneuvering around the expansion draft.

In that case hope he's offered $3,755,233 to $5,632,847 which nets a First and Third Round Pick in 2017.

the hawks would match it up 3.7 until it got over the threshold of 1st and 3rd and then would either trade someone else or trade him to a team that would give up something better then a 2nd. IMO

Actually his AAV was $2m.
- walleyeb1

True, but the qualifying offer must be 100% of his salary (not cap hit) in the last year of his deal which was $2.5 million.

Nice to see they managed to keep Rasmussen in North America for 600K. Good value and plugs a roster spot for pretty much minimum $.

Good enuff for me. TVR can be third pair AND on the RH side.

I was warming up to Soupy in 2010, the point he got hurt. I also saw a bit of what the 'Hawks did not have in games 1-3 of the first round while he was still out. And THAT before Hammer rounded into one of the best pure defencive defencemen in the entire league.

Soupy --- and here we go again --- is an enabler to fortify the defence in a cost effective manner: It takes pressure off Kempny and TVR to be in any second pairing role AND allows TVR to stay on the right side.

Great points and makes a ton of sense for the Hawks. It's probably why it won't happen.

Those teams know the numbers and will go just below the lower number cuz it's just a 2nd. Plus any OS, the signing team needs to have their own picks.

An OS won't happen IMO. 'Hawks sign him one way or another or trade his rights. I would hope for a 2nd rounder. And since it will be before 7/1, it'll be this year's draft pick the 'Hawks get. Instead of '17 picks if comp'd from an OS 'Hawks do not match.

Yes and my point for awhile is Shaw doesn't have the leverage to break the bank and if someone want's to give him a huge raise-Take the picks and spend the cap space on someone else.

Not sure I understand what you mean here, Al. I just meant why would they trade him for less than what they get if he signed an offer sheet elsewhere?

That's why I thought it was interesting that Pat Brisson, plans to discuss a new contract with the Chicago Blackhawks at the draft. Like you said Shaw's agent is able to talk to any team he wants to now.

It's number of dollars 'Hawks benefitted from earlier on, divided by number of years left after retirement or trade.

Cap hit $5.275M.

Salaries each yr: 7.9 the first 7yrs, 4.0, then 1.0 last 4 yrs.

If he left (not LTIR'd) now last 5yrs recapture would be:

(7.9-5.275)*7/5=3.625

Say he plays three more years, last 2yrs recapture would be:

- blackhawk24[(7.9-5.275)*7+(4-5.275)*1+(1-5.275)*2]/2=4.275

That's how I interpreted the recapture rule.

Nicely done!

Hmmm. First the Malkin rumor hits the air waves and us loosing 2 centers and now we bring a guy back who was all but headed to the euro league and plays center.

Pre-emptive move before a bigger move?

Which team in the right mind would pay Shaw $3.7M and lose 1st and 3rd in the process? Come on!

If they offer 1st alone for his rights, Hawks probably would take it...

Oh, please come back Dennis, there is room for you. We are trading Shaw and Kruger to Pittsburgh for Malkin or Crosby, I can't remember which one.

Sincerely,

John McDonough

I wouldn't mind seeing a Shaw/Crow package...

Don't know that the market for each individually would yield the first round pick of those teams who would be interested... But both together?

Would the 2 together justify Calgary or Buffalo parting ways w/ the #6 or #8? Would be ideal to get more, but don't know the market is there...

Buffalo targeting a "faster" rebuild...

The next few days may get quite interesting

I was referring to the trade value of Shaw's rights...They aren't worth much now.
