Descibes my thoughts on JM goin to Utica & UFA's being signed short term. - Nighthawk
JM and JV are kids. A year of riding buses and no spotlights might make them hungry to never want to go back to the AHL. Both had stretches where they were invisible.
It could be a perfect wake up call for both. |

If something like that is available, that would be great.
Hansen has been a great player but I think this is when you move him for max value, coming off a career year. We aren't winning the cup over the next two years, so why not move him and get a player that will be here longer and is younger. If mentoring is, needed, we still have Burrows and can sign a UFA. - hillbillydeluxe
It has to be for the right deal though. He probably has about 5-6 good years in the tank. I think trading him for a draft pick is the wrong thing. If you are talking about a NHL ready top 4 D then all bets are off. |

True but much depends on what UFA(s) r signed & if any other roster players r moved. To the trade down only happens in my mind if JB sees something in a C further down & the 2nd part coming our way is a key prospect. JB wants to fill the age gap & 2 birds with one stone is the only plausible scenario IMO.
That said standing pat is very safe if no rock our socks deal is offered.
Logan Brown or Jake Bean both r intriguing further down the draft.
A trade down would occur after we make the 5OA or not at all til we see who fell to us. A wait n see hedge. - Nighthawk
The only thing that we have an advantage over other teams is cap space. Not just cap space now but also in the future. We also have very little to sign down the road worth a big payout besides Horvat. If we can find an opportunity with cap crunched teams then we stand a chance. Imagine what McBrittlebones gets paid after his ELC.... there's always a chance but it's slim.

Yes indeed๐ Future cap space has been well taken care of.
A few years of space to remold the new core looks good.
Go forward nice n steady & as we improve we can lure a big UFA. |

We don't know what they have planned for their training this summer, we could be very surprised come training camp. Watch Higgins beat all LWs except Danny. |

It is difficult trading value for value.
When you say he has 5-6 good years, we could still lose him to free agency at the end of his present contract. Maybe there is no rush to move him, I'd still be interested to know if there is any interest from other clubs. |

I'll take the over on Higgins scoring 10 next year regardless of which team he plays on. |

That injury really slowed him down and the same for Prust.
Alternatively, I thought Hamhuis looked like he struggled out of the gate and then played better after breaking his jaw, he took a little time to get going again, but better than the start of the season anyway..
How many of these older guys do we want in the lineup? Even with his cap hit, I'd rather keep Burrows over Higgins if we had to move one or the other. |

I think Higgins straight played poorly last season but think he is closer to the player we saw score 15 or so each year than what he did this year. I think what we saw from Burr is more or less what he will be until he retires, if I have to keep one then I likely ignore my sentimental attachment to burrows and keep Higgins. The cap certainty plays into it for me.

I think Burrows is a better team guy, more heart. I didn't like that quote that Irfaan tweeted from Higgins, saying they called up all these guys before him, sounded like he was sulking.
If we have plenty of cap space, I'd keep Burr, if his cap hit gets in the way of moves, I can see the logic of keeping Higgins.
Since Vantel mentioned Pratt... this morning, Pratt suggested LA might be able to move Gaborik as a cap dump to the Yotes, who may need to take on salary to hit the floor... wouldn't they be more interested in a Higgins or Burrows with just a year remaining on either contract? |

Fair enough, don't recall that tweet and I have a lot of respect for burrows but think he has really lost his speed and energy. |

I am sure Higgins was one of the vets saying the kids were handed too much, too soon.
He has had stretches in the past where he really competed, but I haven't seen that determination in a while. Then again, maybe he sees the writing on the wall and comes to camp more ready and determined to do something before his time is up. |

He is far from being my favourite player.
I have heard/read others say he is one of those players that elevates their play in the playoffs. That last Calgary series, he didn't start playing/hitting until the writing was already on the wall.
Nobody claimed him off waivers, usually teams in the playoff hunt would have been interested in a guy that could play some pk... never want to see him on the pp again in Vancouver. |

Higgins is not a PO player.
He is a mediocre aging player that adds very little to what Canucks needs are. The core is old . No reason to bring back this type of player. |
