In regards to kaptaan's posts;
Is it not illegal to slander people regardless of the forum. Didn't a woman in the Fraser Valley get a $60,000 + fine for doing this exact same thing on Facebook? Could this site not be found complicit for allowing this? |

On the topic of Jannik Hansen, I'd like to see him moved for future assets (highest draft pick they can get) or packaged in a trade for a top four dman. |

I am really not sure what Kaptaan's intentions are with his constant accusations towards Messier on this site, but regardless, it needs to stop. Not only is no one interested, but it is not funny, or good reading material for others. And yes Marwood, I read that story, a woman was accusing their neighbour of being a pedophile (when she was a teacher) and ended up winning a huge lawsuit because of it. Not sure if it is the same case, but slander is a very serious offense. |

I think a top 4 might be a stretch on what Vancouver has assets to afford, but I would be ok with targeting a prospect with top 4 potential. He needs to be moved by the draft IMO, cant let another good season be wasted or tarnished by a slow start to the next year, sell high on an aging asset! |

As much as I like Hansen and his contract. Probably not a bad idea either way. But, do you have faith in Trader Jim to get the deal right? |

I have mediocre faith in Trader Jim, but really am starting to care less about saving these assets for the best deal. I applaud him for the Kesler deal, he didnt hesitate to pull the trigger and likewise when Bonino and Clendenning werent quite working out they were gone.
I think at this point, you acquire what you can but the important thing is turning the roster over and getting younger. JB has really done well with the forwards (now 8 under the age of 25) and now its the Defense needs to be reassembled. Someone mentioned yesterday in comparing Vancouver and SJ how Wilson rebuilt his entire defense, and I think JB needs to do the same with his. Yes some are still considerably young (Edler being the oldest under contract at 30), but the cycle should be reset so the core D like Hutton and Tryamkin are in those prime years when the team is ready to be competitive |

Setting the bar high...
In all seriousness, with the number of 1 way contracts on the Canuck D core, I wish I knew the team's plans heading into the off season. I am already assuming Bart and Weber are gone, but there are still 8 D (assuming Pedan and Larsson are signed) on 1 way. I know Vancouver likes to have 8 NHL ready D and probably wouldnt lose sleep over Biega getting claimed if they grabbed Weircoch for depth, but I am curious how they plan to improve the back end for 2-3 seasons from now - WhiteLie
I keep asking this question too. Some of JB's moves, bringing in guys that will require waivers to be sent to Utica, Larssen, or swapping same for same, Etem/Jensen. Doesn't leave a lot of flexibility for next season. Requiring the club to either give the player a shot with the club, park them in the press box or expose them on waivers.
I can see Hansen being traded for a pick, but if a player comes back, they have to be young enough not to go through waivers to be sent to Utica. And from Hansen's interview with CS, he is expecting some moves.
I am not sure who to move from the defense beyond Edler with the ntc, Sbisa with a not very good contract or Pedan who is unproven with limited value or Biega with limited value and unfriendly contract...
Can't see Tryamkin being moved or Hutton or Tanev.
Hansen: "Obviously, they want to continue in the same direction. Get younger, turn over the roster, kind of get some new blood in. Build the team again through draft, free agency, whatever it might be." |

Though I dont mind acquiring the young 1 way contract players, it does create that logjam and I always hoped that getting these players meant that guys were moving out. In the example of Etem, he was brought in and Higgins was sent to Utica which I think we all agree that was good for the Canucks. Not a major increase in production but a younger player nonetheless.
I do think, unless its in a package to upgrade, that Traymkin, Hutton and Pedan are the least likely to be dealt given their ages. Pedan hasnt done much in the NHL but has done his time in the AHL and is only 22. It will take some time for these guys to develop, but hopefully in a few years they are solid NHL defensemen.
Sbisa only has 2 more years left, so I dont think his contract is that bad (Canucks could eat $1M and it would look better). Edler's time to move should be soon, otherwise he will be on the wrong side of 30 and less likely to be desired. Tanev I like but probably garners the most return. He is young enough though to still be an important defender for the Canucks in 4 years time. Its the Edler-Tanev future I am most curious what management is planning for |

Thanks Carol, great interview with Hansen.
I especially found his comments regarding his leadership and role on the team interesting. It must be an interesting dynamic for these smaller country teams that have "super stars" coming in from the NHL but really don't know the the rest of the team.

I wonder about Pedan, if WD trusts him enough to give him a fair shot? If/when Larssen signs, will he get a fair shot?
Sbisa is slightly overpaid, as you said, if the club eats a bit of salary, he shouldn't be impossible to move. I think Sbisa's physical play is replaceable with Tryamkin and Pedan in the lineup.
Biega was a pleasant surprise, not dynamic or anything, but plays bigger than his size and with his contract, might be the easiest to send to Utica without being claimed.
Edler and Hansen both should be moved soon for max return. both are on reasonable contracts with 2 years remaining. |

I agree, while I have been critical of some of his moves, I do like that he moved on from players that didn't fit even if he originally thought they would. Sbisa, Vey and Miller hopefully this offseason...

To me, he's a critical part of this team. I dont give a shyt about his stock I dont want him moved unless he's packaged with something to get us significant return. Quite frankly if he being moved on his own, we aint getting anything. One career year doesnt equate to a successful return on the trade market.
He worth Peanuts. More Valuable here than elsewhere at the moment. |

I understand your point. I am just not sure there is much of a point, when I personally don't think we will be winning a cup or being a solid contending team in the next 2 years. He could fetch a big return now, which would give us that 2 year window to draft and develop. |

I had a question about the expansion draft.
Ek had a blog up about it and said the Lightning wouldn't have to worry about protecting Bishop because he is a pending ufa...
Does the expansion draft take place before July 1 and the start of free agency? So the only reason Bishop or other UFA would be picked would be to get negotiating rights and it wouldn't be smart to wast a pick on that?
So clubs will automatically expose pending ufa's in the expansion draft? |

I agree, I don't think he will get the return people are hoping for so I think his presence on the team will be more valuable than what he will fetch.
That said I could see him garnering a bigger return at the TDL, although I generally expect disappointment there as well. |

I think the idea is the draft occurs before Free agency that pending UFA's would be a waste to pickup.
I thought this article did an okay job of creating a potential list.
