I thought that was a good pick. I think it would be an asset for the Steelers to be able to man up on guys like AJ Green in their zone blitz schemes.
Lots of talent left in the 2nd. I'd like to see the Steelers trade up to either get in the top 5 picks of the 2nd round or trade up from their 3rd to get a 2nd pick in the first. Billings, Ragland, Fuller, or Jack would all be great values early in the first round but unlikely any of them fall to their current pick.
If they stay put and all of those guys are gone a safety like Cravens or Cash would be solid. - MacPatty
I can't believe Bilings and Jack are still available. If Cleveland doesn't take one of those guys well then they're still the browns. |

There was no news on Kunitz. Typically taking a puck to the face won't keep hockey players out but the report was he was bleeding pretty heavily from the ear. That's scary. - dbell646
That would be bad but Sprong has 3G 1A in 3 playoff games for WBS....
Putting him out there on Malkin's RW might not be the worst option. |

Apparently Myles Jack's knee is more concerning than Jaylon Smith's. Apparent there's real risk of further degeneration. What he told interviewers the day before the draft did nothing to inspire confidence. Something about microfracture surgery in the future and how NFL careers last an average of three seasons so there's no telling what the future holds. I can 100% see him slipping much further than just the second round. |

Yes. He is definitely able to make the jump up if they need him. He might have a hard time with the physicality and the D side of the game but in a tight series like this, having a guy like him who can snipe could be a great asset. |

Think we've pretty much covered all we can from last nights game. However Cullen, Rust, Sheary, and Kunitz not at practice. - dbell646
Had a feeling there'd be at least a few maintenance days today....hopefully that's all it is... |

In a world where Kunitz and Sheary are hurt it might be a better idea to call up Sprong than play 7 D. |

I know his insurance kicks in after pick 45 gets a certain amount for every pick after that. Sucks for Jack and Smith because they are absolute studs. I'd take a flyer on either if I were the steelers especially in the 3rd. |

So Wilson received a fine for last night. He does anything else stupid and he'll be suspended.
EDIT: Also, o'le Brucey boy has been fired by the Ducks...not all that surprising really. |

Pretty wreckless play a fine is useless especially if Sheary doesn't play. |

I have no problem taking a chance on Smith but I want nothing to do with a player that says he may only play 3 years.

I like Boudreau as a coach too, I think he's a top 5-10 coach in the league. His teams always dominate and just have bad luck. |

Why that's right around the end of the Ben era. Probably going to have to retool at that point anyway |

I understand that BUT anything else and he's repeat offender and a repeat offender in the same series at that. Its not much but its a start. |

You realize what he would have to do to get a suspension? He'd literally have to take his skate off and cut a players throat with it. It's round 2 |

If I'm the Steelers and Jack falls to us in the second, I don't think about it. That's a solid gamble.
If I'm the Steelers and we have the opportunity to trade up in the third and grab Smith, I laugh at the Texans and do it in a heart beat. Jaylon Smith will be the first pick in the third round. He's an out of this world athlete and is already pro ready. He's gonna have to take his rookie season off but after that he will be a beast. He's so versitile and can play any linebacker position to a T. Hell, sometimes I felt like he was or best CB too with how well he could play coverage. An interior of Shazier and Smith with Dupree on the outside would set us for years to come. |

Even with the accolade of top 5 coach in the NHL I don't think that's saying much. There aren't many good NHL coaches, IMO. I think Babcock, Sutter, and Q are outstanding. Then you've got guys like Budreau, Hitchcock, Trotz, and Lavi that are pretty good but deeply flawed and have gotten exposed time and time again in the playoffs. Then there's a whole bunch of mediocrity and unproven commodities. The same thing can be said about GMs. There's like three that are legitimately great, then a handful of guys that have moments of brilliance but are still prone to some major head scratchers, and then a whole bunch of garbage. It goes back to the NHL being an old boys' club. GMs and coaches are almost always ex NHL players that break into the buisness through friends. |

They did that with Spence. I just think the next 2 rounds are likely a safety and a D tackle which are pretty big needs. |

I wouldn't trade up for Myles Jack. I'd let someone else take that gamble since it's not a position of need, but if he falls to us late in the second round it's really really hard to say no to a top 5 talent in the draft that late. But if we have the opportunity to get Jaylon Smith in the third, needs be damned we gotta pull the trigger and go for value at DT in later rounds. Jaylon is arguably the best player in the draft and with today's medicine young players come back from his type of injury without missing a beat most of the time. That guy is going to be a star in the league, and you never have the opportunity to take guys of that caliber in the later rounds.
I'd take a safety in the second and trade up for Smith in the third if we can. |

Yohe reporting Kunitz could be out Game 2.
Move Fehr to left wing and call up Sprong! |

IF Kunitz is definitely out, I would consider it. Need to make sure Geno has a solid defensive player as the other wing. That's asking a lot out of someone like Sprong who has yet to play in this system. But it would be a matter of a warm body who wont lose the game like Sundqvist or Bennett. Or going for someone that can make an impact. |
