I think the Oilers lost this trade.. |

Not to mention if CBJ stays at the bottom and wins the lottery, they get Auston Matthews as a future #1C... hypothetical but worthy of note |

It's a pretty fair trade. Johansen isn't good defensively but I think right now he is the better player and NSH still has an elite blue line.
Jones has the higher ceiling so it might make the trade more favorable to CBJ in the long run as they aren't competing this season regardless and Tortorella probably wasn't going to ever get along with Johansen. |

CBJ's defense could be scary good in a few more years. NSH is pretty much ready to compete now. CBJ will more than likely be looking to draft a top center prospect. Matthews would certainly help speed up the retooling. |

Preds.
They get a number one center which is something all teams covet. Jackets got a great player back, but this will open up a hole that they might not be able to replace (I assume).
Nashville can adjust to their loss with ease.
Hoping they play Forsberg with him, that could give him the shot in the arm to get out of his current apparent sophomore slump. |

That is a good point I hadn't thought of, they look destined to get a great player for sure either way, so they may be planning on a mini rebuild, jones is young enough to plan for that. |

CBJ will be fine at center. Pretty deep at that position. I think the trade as it stands is equal for both teams. Will know more in 5 years. |

Pretty certain Tanner has a custom keyboard with a Nazim Kadri button right next to the backslash |

Seeing what they each sign for will truly determine a winner for me. High end forward talent is more readily available to CBJ as well |

Is there a player who can fulfill the role of a number one? I'm genuinely asking.
Although a good draft pick this year could fix that problem instantly, or pretty quickly. |

And Zach Werenski will very likely join the team in the fall. Ironically, next season CBJ might have the best young defensive corps in the league with Seth Jones (21), Ryan Murray(22), David Savard (25), Zach Werenski (18).
If they don't trade Kerby Rychel and move him up with Sonny Milano combined with a chance at a guy like Auston Matthews or Matthew Tkachuk and this could be a very scary young team.
Of course, we all thought CBJ would be good this year sooooo |

If the Jackets grab Austin Mathews, they win. They'd end up with a big up and coming D, and a new #1C.
If they don't, then I'd say Preds as of right now. They get their #1C, and they are deep enough on D that the loss doesn't hurt them that bad. |

James had get Kadri 's name in there somehow. I agree with you though. Just hope Torts likes him |

Jones will end up being a very good top pairing defenseman but Columbus loses this deal and by allowing hurt feelings to dictate trading a home grown superstar. No way should a team trade away a player who could/should be around for 10-12 years to satisfy a coach who will be gone in two or three. |

Boone Jenner is a natural centerman who's been playing on the wing. He's 22 and playing on the first line with 14 goals. Alexander Wennberg is 21 and depending on how he develops could fill that roll as well, I believe. He's already playing on the first PP unit and shown a lot. Increased minutes will determine whether or not he can progress. The rest of this season will show a lot about Wennberg.
Brandon Dubinsky is currently playing on that top spot.
But to answer the question, yes I think they can with what they have, personally. |

The hurt feelings is a spin people who don't like Torts are using. The reality is 6 goals in 38 games combined with conditioning issues and the need for a defenseman like Jones are why he was moved. Hurt feelings had nothing to do with it lol. |

Tanner
Wow, 1000X lopsided? A "potential" #1 center? Dude put up 60some and 70 some points last 2 seasons and potted I believe 27/33 goals.
I like it for Nashville > Cbus |

Regardless of the "spin" a very good young player that has had some struggles was shipped out. Cbj got an excellent return for RJ, but imo Johansen should not have been on the block.
Edit. And nobody likes torts. |

Torts is awesome lol. I love that he doesn't give a flying donut what anybody else thinks and he says it how he sees it. It's refreshing.

We all thought Johansen and Saad was going to be awesome. Saad was awesome. Johansen was not |

Considering the talent both of these guys bring is close in comparison, I say CBJ wins the trade. Only reason being is that it was common knowledge to all teams GM's that Johansen was not happy with the situation and wanted out. That type of situation always handcuffs GM's and ultimately reduces the trade value. So for CBJ to get Seth Jones in return is a great victory IMO. |
