Must agree. It's better to tank for a few years.
Some teams make an art form out of it.
I wonder what it's like to draft #1 overall.

- Nighthawk

Buffalo did everything in its power to get it for 2 years and still did not get the number 1 overall pick. It must really be an artform lol

How will Stamkos like playing for Torts?
- A_SteamingLombardi

Like everyone else...He wouldn't. . I love rumours but I can't see this happening, why would Columbus do this if they were not 100% that they can sign him. Stamkos will not sign him . He is going to sign with the Maple Leafs............just ask any Leaf fan.

Not sure I see the value of this trade for either side. Stamkos is a rental and Johansen is overrated right now. Silly idea.

Including me, cause I believe he will be in Toronto next year. Can'tsee any team giving much up for
Unless they feel they will win it thisyear n can accept he will walk at the end of year. I don't see Tampa trading him if it's only futures not when they have a chance to win this year with him. Can you see him signing with Tampa or any other team then Toronto?

I think he would have signed already in Tampa if he was going to stay. Imo,. he's definitely moving on.

He is going to the Leafs.

Why would Columbus unload all of that to get Stamkos... only for Stamkos to leave at the end of the season and sign elsewhere? Jackets aren't contending for a while, and are rebuilding. Giving up picks, prospects, and their best player would literally be the stupidest thing they could do.

I could see him signing a short deal somewhere to try and win before going to Toronto.

Hasn't he already said he wants the same type of deal as the Hawks pair? The way he is going I think he takes the biggest longest contract he can get as soon as he can get it!

Lol, not a chance in hell. Professional athletes don't give up guaranteed dollars and risk career ending injuries.

He'll be signing for 8 or 7 years.

Vancouver = "VERY much interested", "several sources"

Is that not an e3 at worst and an e4 at best depending on if your sources are coming from both organizations?

Any team who trades for him to be theyre #1 Center will be making a huge mistake. Let him fall to the market and attempt to sign him.
- poisondhearts37

I understand what you're saying about him being the 'man'. But you make it seem like he's not a top 30 Center, or that he's a complimentary bum like Gaborik or Carter.

You know where he would look great? Nashville.

Can't move Bo and a pick. Tanev Burrows Higgins and Weber for RJ and their 2nd.

So Stamkos won't sign an extension in TB, but would in CB?

You know , when you take two or three pieces of poop and pack them together, no matter how you swing it, it's still just a piece of poop.

Maybe the Leafs can offer Polak, Lupol , Parenteau and Marincin for RJ and a 2nd?

Other than Hossa, I've never seen that done. His agent would strangle him. He'll get minimum 7 years.

And he can certainly win with the Leafs. Two of the top 10 prospects in the NHL will join him next season, along with a top 5 pick in the system.

Agreed. If he wanted to do that, why not wait until you're 33 and the cheap 1 year deal is not so far off from your earning potential?
