Compared to the Richards and Brown deals it is nada. At least Stan, and I believe he was handling contracts at the time, made long term bets on the right players. So far so good. Keith looks like he can maintain his game like Lidstrom. Hossa missed how many games this year?
Lombardi may be all in next year with Lucic because he sees more cap issues coming. He's moved a lot of picks and prospects too. I could even see the Gaborik deal being a problem. - tredbrta
I believe that number is zero...all 105.
and to think he entered the season with back issues. |

Perhaps you're right...I just don't like the idea of buyouts and the cap hits that follow...self inflicted wounds that are best avoided since the hardcap is such a problem to begin with. - ArlingtonRob
I really am worried that the Hawks will have to buy out Bickell. every penny counts and a $1 million cap hit for an empty roster spot is not an insignificant problem for a team as up against the cap as the hawks are.
Everyone has been jumping on SB for not getting something for Sharp already, but honestly I couldn't care less what we get for Sharp. If stand can get Sharp and Bickell traded and have at least as many assets afterwards I will consider that an excellent job by our GM. What i don't want to see happen is a buy out for Bickell or us having to trade assets with Bickell to get a team to take him. |

Get prepared pretty sure that going to happen, unless maybe if you are taking just a 7th rounder back. |

I do hope they adopt treat him like the Wings treat older guys. Rest them when given the opportunity - even with minor injuries - and use the games to work in kids. Make sure he is ready for the POs. He sure had jump though in the POs this year at times in spite of all the games played. |

Q gives his guys more days off than most teams...he knows how to handle his guys.
Q may rely on vets more than many fans like, but he gives them down time to recover. |

poop I would totally take a 7th rd pick for Bickell.
For anyone who is hoping the hawks find a way to resign Vermette, let bickell be the cautionary tale. Just because a guy is a playoff hero doesn't mean you just hand him a new contract. Neither Bickell or Vermette have been terribly impressive throughout their careers in the regular season but then seem to turn it on in the postseason. Not really worth $4-5 million for that. Especially when your Bickell and end up going through a tough postseason where you don't do squat. that was $4 million wasted this past season on someone who never really contributed anything. |

In the last ten years most cup winners have teams that are older than the NHL average. Whether fans like it or not, experience, not youth, wins championships. |

Not necessarily disagreeing with you but it's apples to oranges comparison given Vermette was playing for Arizona |

I will give Vermette this, he was very good at winning faceoffs. One of the most undervalued skills in the leage. So even if he isn't scoring goals he does still help in other ways. |

Not even close, Hayes is so slow maybe a little faster than Brunette - BetweenTheDots
Hayes is a big body and a little better around the net. hayes got paid 925k last year, 4mil for bickel. Bickel still better? or were there still cheaper options out there. |

Fixed. - Sandus
For some on this board, still a great deal for the Kings, because two Cups baby.
Long term contracts can come back and bite you. Hope all ends well for the hawks.

Well, not so sure Richards had lots to do with cup victory in 2014, but he did play well on the 4th line. |

So you're saying your buddies who left in a huff got banned? - paulr
Is leaving "in a huff" when paulr attacks something HB issues bans for? If so, there would be no one left here.
You seem really proud of driving TexasFlood off the board. Is that something to be proud of? Also btw, I was simply agreeing with TF that evening. Never saw him attack anyone and he was making a valid point and stating an opinion as opinion not fact.
Bet it (driving posters away) gets points on the other thread though. Gift cards for potato chips? |

Nah, just condescending. - tredbrta
Condescending is when an Internet genius assumes that he knows the situation better than a guy who has been in the arena for awhile now, with demonstrated success.
BTW....that is not directed at JJ...... |

True. Lucic could help them a lot next year too. Lombardi is also a great drafter and talent evaluator. Wouldn't be surprised if he finds plenty of cheap pieces. Looks like he will have to. Particularly those years where the penalty is close to $4m. |

If the Rangers could clear the cap space I would love to see a package of JT Miller, graves, and a pick for sharp |

Give mike Richards a shot. He will be motivated as anyone. One year deal. Replace vermette. If toews and Keith can't get him going then he's finished. |

Hayes and Bickell play different positions. The comparison is skewed by the fact that Hayes wouldn't have received the same amount of ice time in Chicago as he did in Florida. Hayes is a RW. He wasn't going to supplant either Hossa or Kane at that position in the top 6. So its hard to say if he would have produced more or less than Bickell did this season playing the same amount and in the same situations as Bickell did for the Hawks. |

The Kings blogger wrote an excellent piece looking at the drafting and development skills of various teams. Check it out; it may help you. Turns out a lot of teams are pretty similar in this respect. |

My point about Bowmans/McD dynamics was more from the Scottys pov, I understand if Stan is offered GM job and he is paper boy at time you take it whatever circumstances, I just wonder why Scotty is still around if him and his son are so micromanaged, does he really needs that paycheck
I agree with you that Stan has not much to do with 1st cup because he inherited everything, but after they won the cup he had to sell off half of the team. What if he is not matching Hammers offer sheet, what if he is trading Seabrook in 2010 for "better return", I don't think we are having 2013, 2015.
I don't want to sound like Stanley apologist because I am not, I just think he should get little longer rope for what he traded for or didn't traded at all from what he inherited. I've seen many GMs winning TDL, drafts, free agencies and their teams season ends in April every year. I'll take conservative Stanley at this point over other gunslinging GM there is. - TS-40
