For some on this board, still a great deal for the Kings, because two Cups baby.

Long term contracts can come back and bite you. Hope all ends well for the hawks.

for Bickel to get a contract like that, do you think SB thought he was part of the core. couldn't jimmy hayes been a cheaper option? or just cheaper options.

Say what you want about Bickell but I''m sorry

I wish Stan understood the market as well as this board. I'm frightened.

I'm glad I can get my daily dose of comedy here, Bowman did a great job getting something for Leddy, WAY OVERRATED!

Now there's a GM that should get the Mussolini Treatment.

Can you imagine if Stan did that!

Indeed!

But Lombardi, like Shero before, will get the "World's greatest GM" label from all the talking heads.

If the cap doesn't go up in 18, 19 and 20, with the young guys on their team that will be coming off bridge deals, those penalties will kill them and you'll see a purge like '10 in Chicago.

Again, that doesn't count Carter and Browns deals, and the deal that Kopitar is likely to get.

I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Mike Richards if you could get him for 6 figures. Still young enough to get physically fit again, and he's always had pretty good hockey sense and a solid work ethic (Dry Island notwithstanding).
- Sandus

The main problem with Richards is he is paying for all the years of not taking the best care of himself. Add that to the way he played the game and he really has slowed down.

Some team will pay him more than 6 figures based on his past. IMO.

If I'm Stan's agent, I'm pimping out Stan in and Ad Campaign for Potato Chips, and I'm going to hold out for the highest bidder.

Oh wait, he'll probably wait until September and lose that deal........................

Everyone knows that the best time to sell potato chips is before Labor Day. In the summer. With the picnics and all.

I disagree! The best time to sell potato chips is DURING the NHL entry draft.

That last paragraph would be almost 100% wrong because I have no friends or buddies and I have never been to blacklistville, I have however kissed an ass or two in my time.

Youre 100% correct, no speculation in your assessment.

I guess.

it can happen here. Maybe the concussion Richards suffered during the playoffs in 2013 had something to do with it. You never know what can happen to Hossa, Keith, Kane or Toews - one concussion or knee injury - and it is a whole new ball game for player and GM. Hopefully the Hawk Stars stay healthy. Please - Oh Please.

Bickell's situation worries me more than Hossa...

...I think Hossa will play out his deal...the Hawk version of Selanne.

- ArlingtonRob

Bickell's situation isn't very worrisome. If the Hawks buy him out, there is a 3M savings on the cap. It may mean they have to go into the season with a 22 man roster instead of a 23 man. No really that big of a deal with Rockford right down I90.

Perhaps you're right...I just don't like the idea of buyouts and the cap hits that follow...self inflicted wounds that are best avoided since the hardcap is such a problem to begin with.

I am not advocating it but the reality is it does give Bowman some options if he can't get a team to take Bickell without salary coming back. In Bickell's case it isn't the type of buyout that will seriously hamper future signings and trades.

Compared to the Richards and Brown deals it is nada. At least Stan, and I believe he was handling contracts at the time, made long term bets on the right players. So far so good. Keith looks like he can maintain his game like Lidstrom. Hossa missed how many games this year?

Lombardi may be all in next year with Lucic because he sees more cap issues coming. He's moved a lot of picks and prospects too. I could even see the Gaborik deal being a problem.

That's true...when compared with a Mike Richards buyout it's trivial.

The the 4 year duration would suck.
