Kane has a NTC and is not going anywhere. Highly doubt Seabs is either. It would take a massive overpay for the Hawks to even think of trading #7 right now.
- PaulNewman

I didn't know if there was a trading window between contracts for Kane, like there was for Carter and Richards when Philly traded them. I'd think the only place he'd ever consider was Buffalo, anyway, and only then if he thought they were headed in the right direction. Seabs would only be traded if they had no real choice, obviously.

WTF!!!

Hossa has contract. Hossa in beloved by Hawks fans. Hossa has a wife and children. Hossa has been in Chicago for 6 years. Hossa has 3 cups. Hossa is a fortunate man.

How and why would he "retire" to join his brother in the KHL when he is in the best possible situation in Chicago, IL USA.

I don't even understand why this question was asked...

- ArlingtonRob

hossa salary next year is 7.9 mildo

hossa played in every game this year all 105 of 'em.

next question!!!

Maybe / probably they do.

But would an owner want to take on a guy like Jeff Skinner who gets a concussion every 10 games and may not even be insurable now? Thats a lot of cake to eat if he can't play.

Or Kessel who is owed $55M and who in the last couple of years of his deal may look like Colin Montgomery out on the ice.

- RickJ

Fair points Rick. Just wanted to add Oshie to that list. He hasn't exactly been known to step up in the playoffs.

Kane & Toews last contract had a NTC kick in in the last year of the deal.

I'm not privy to every detail of their contracts. Just saying that if Crawford is not being dealt, we sure aren't going to like any of the other possibilities should they fail to deal whomever is expected to be dealt.

In my opinion there are 4 guys on the Hawks who will play their last game in the NHL as Blackhawks. Toews, Kane, Hossa and Keith. On the maybe list are Seabrook and HJalmarsson. Everyone else is a moving part.

I think Hossa is the only one who's virtually 100%, because of his contract structure. One can never say never with anybody else. Kane back to Buffalo, Toews back to Winnipeg at the end of his career, anything can happen. I think the only three who have zero chance of being moved under any circumstances this summer would be 2, 19, and 81. Anybody else is greater than 0%. It's still a business.

I'd hate to see him leave also, and hope he stays as long as he is effective, which he is still very much so, but on the other hand he may want to leave going out on top, the long season may start wearing on him as he gets older, his salary starts dropping in a few years and he is very close with friends and family in Slovakia

But I wasnt advocating his departure, just wondering about the rule, is going to the KHL the same as retiring, so recapture penaties apply or is the KHL a special case ? I would guess it is not a special case, and that was closed after Kovalchuk went to the KHL, but not sure.

Teams that don't spend to the cap don't care about the cap hit. So I think there will be plenty of teams who will want 81 as a part timer who can teach their young guys a few things about the 200 ft game especially at 1 mill a year.

If you discount Edmonton and Buffalo, by virtue of getting the benefit of picking the two generational players, discount moves of veteran NHL players, the team that had the best overall draft was Colorado, There first five picks all have a terrific chance to develop into NHLers: Mikko Rantanen, Anthony John “AJ” Greer, Nicolas Meloche, J. C. Beaudin and third year eligible and ready to play now, Andrei A. Mironov, a 20 year old vet of Moscow Dynamo. For more details, go to http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/draft-history/2015/ and click on their names.

Wiz,

Any thoughts on the flip side? Team that took the most fliers/had the least productive draft?

So far the consensus is that Crawford is going to stay, given the Raanta trade.
- 333inthe3rd

I think Raanta was a goner even if Crawford gets traded. No way you start the year with Darling and Raanta. If Crawford goes, they will get a more experience goalie via trade or free agency imho.

@Catsfan92: @TheFourthPeriod Think the Panthers make a trade for a second line scoring winger, or any trade at all? #needagoalscorer

@TheFourthPeriod: They've expressed interest in Chicago's Bickell. https://t.co/5YlNgkXECb
