There was no way whatsoever any NHL team would've taken Mike Richards with his level of play and contract.
- walshyleafsfan

You never know, if the prospect/picks coming back are worth the player you are giving up or slightly more then taking a chance on Richards at $2.875M isn't a bad way to go. At that salary he just needs to make the team's 3rd line with the ability to fill in for a few games on the 2nd line. Maybe asking a lot but maybe not.

Eklund: Brodeur Takes Asst. GM Job with Blues, Vermette, Green.. Buzzcast at 3pm
- Eklund

The Blues made a really smart move here. - Eklund

Ek, you always say this about every move that any GM makes at any time. Doesn't matter the circumstance. A journalist can be critical sometimes. Don't worry about pissing people off. It can actually generate some respect if done professionally.

That said, what qualifications does Brodeur have to be named assistant GM other than his name? Nothing that I can see.

It actually goes:

Nonis: hey, I know you guys need a taker for Richards and if you have no other options we can swap David Clarkson. Bad contract for bad contract but at least Clarkson can play more minutes and other roles. For us maybe Richards benefits from a change of scenery and fights for a top 6 role. What do you think?

Dean: while there is a chance that deal benefits us what we need is a defenseman. How about Jake Gardiner? He is being destroyed by the Leafs media so obviously an overpaid 4th line center for a young defenseman who hasn't fully developed yet is totally fair.

*click*

Dean: damn, wasn't even close.

Well maybe that call went a little bit my way and a little bit your way.

- Steven_Dean

well actually Ek was the one who reported it, so theres a good chance no phone call ever happened.

Clarkson
- Bieksa#3

Not sure what's funny about that, one bad contract for another. What is comical is they wanted Gardiner for him.

Really, Leafs, Clarkson? Not anybody's fault but your own that you gave clarkson that dumb contract. What a joke
- RobitailleFAN20

i'm sorry, are you actually laughing at the clarkson contract?

Scenario A:

Sign Clarkson, give up nothing to acquire him. ends up being a total bust

Scenario B:

Trade for Richards, give up BRAYDEN SCHENN AND WAYNE SIMMONDS. ends up being a total bust.

hilarious indeed.

Weird. You say Clarkson was going the other way and LA wanted Gardiner, Elliott Friedman says a Dion for Richards swap was considered and LA said no when Leafs asked about their young guys.

Makes sense. Considering how LA needs to get rid of money to sign those young guys.

So I highly doubt your trade rumor is actually true.

Moral of the story is?
NHL GMs are selfish bastards.
Won't help "buddies in need" to get out of terrible contracts.

Actually it goes more like this:

Nonis: "Hello, Dave Nonis here..hockey team extraordinaire"

Burger King Manager: "Hi Dave, Ralph from Burger King again. We have Phil here, he's passed out drunk in a pile of soggy cheeseburgers again. Can you send someone to come get him?"

Nonis: "Sure Ralph, sorry about that."

And there I was, thinking Phil was the Michelin mascot.

Carolina Hurricanes (!) have more Cups in the expanded league, than Maple Leafs.
Let that sink in first.
Get back to us tomorrow.

I'm 99% convinced this guy is really a Nucks or Sens fan just trying to make the Leafs fans look bad.

What is hilarious is that fact you disregard Richards helped in
LA with winning not 1 BUT 2 cups.

What has clarkson done?

The fact that Richards is a bust now is irrelevant

The Isles do not have that kind of cap space anymore or Rick DiPietro to send the other way.

what is hilarious, is that Lombardi disagrees with you:

"We don't win the first Cup without this guy," Lombardi said.

Dean Lombardi, the GENERAL MANAGER OF THE KINGS, said richards was only relevant for the first cup.

see how this works? i use facts and make your arguements look pathetic. you try to make a counter arguement, only for me to show you up again.

just stop now while your ahead. i know it must hurt for a non-king fan to know more about your team than you do, but realistically a bandwagoner that disappeared until the last few years isn't going to know much about hockey.
