Was not aware of how strong Goc's possession numbers were. I knew he was underappreciated and a very solid move by Shero (perhaps his swan song) but he should not be a fourth line center.
Which is why I'm thinking that the Penguins will not have a true third line fourth line this season. With a balance of talent (scoring, grit, defensive) now in the bottom six and frankly two centers that are 3rd line centers, you might have the option of using both lines in that defensive role and give your top two lines more favorable zone starts.
You do not get a true shut down line like we had in Staal Cooke Kennedy, but you get two lines more than capable of getting the job done and splitting the workload really cuts down on the wear and tear over the course of the season. I wouldn't mind seeing Goc and Sutter's minutes being about equal after one month. |

Sutter will be better this next season. I think he knows what he has to be better on and matured a lot. |

Definitely. Goc is a gamer and I've been saying this for a while. He's the kind of asset good teams should look for.

Ryan, what are some targets you could potentially see GMJR looking to acquire via trade? Maybe a Bobby Ryan, if things don't work out in OTT? Or someone who already has a few years on their contract? Who is even on the block? WPG always comes up as trade partners.. but if that was going to happen, it probably would have already, no? With the acquisition of Hornqvist, I'd be interested to see if he tries to acquire another similar, net front guy, or goes with a more flashy goal scorer for the top 6... |

He certainly has all the tools to make a difference. Being healthy this season is key. A lot of people will recognize the type of player he can be, unlike his injury filled stint last season. |

Not big on trying to acquire Bobby Ryan.
As the market starts to become more clear I will write on those possibilities.
For example, if NJ is out of the playoff hunt a certain former peanut butter salesman could become available. |

Please, please, please let this happen. If that does, I hope for some reason they just wear their thirds the entire playoffs... It HAS to happen. |

Stay away from Bobby Ryan please. I don't want anything to do with his UFA status next season. |

Interesting that Kapanen is not playing tonight. You figure you would want to see him as much as possible in the preseason. |

Yet another blog used to mold/guide peoples thoughts the directions you want.
Can't wait for actual game summary articles to start. That way we can read how aweful Sutter and Spalding are at life and how Goc is our savior. |

What the frank are you talking about? I missed your premise completely.
Also, as a writer is it not his job to open your eyes and help you form an opinion on something you are ignorant about? |

Every article seems to be guided to make Sutter Spalding dirt and Goc gold before we even see them play with current lines. We were spoiled with Staal now Sutter didn't 'fill' his shoes so he must not be worthy.
It is. Just guess I'm tired of it constantly over n over.
Anyways, glad we are only a week away from real games. |

True, I think he is too crude in his analysis sometimes as well. This one did highlight that Sutter was showing growth before changing teams.
Ryan spoke on how Sutter was simply planted into Staal's role, but came up short with Kennedy and Cooke. He failed to highlight that it was a lockout shortended season on a new team in a new system with new linemates that could have hindered him. At least he recognized that his linemates last season sucked and Sutter has shown growth. |

But the point is that we have the assets to improve our 3rd line via means of trade. I didn't really see it as Sutter bashing. Rather he is more or less equal to Goc on-ice but holds a higher trade value.
Personally, like I stated on the last blog, I'd give Sutter a shot as a top 6 wing before trading him.
