Jason Lewis: Player Evaluation: Tanner Pearson - Jason_Lewis
Although Matteau has grown on me and his 6'2 220 frame is impressive I still wonder if we should of taken Pearson at 29 after it was announced we wouldn't be giving that pick up. Unfortunaly I never got to see this kid play in Barrie as I only started going to colts games last year but he seems like a late bloomer and I could easily see his development sky rocketing ! If not though he is like you said pretty much a lock to be an nhl regular ! |

i thought one of the reasons he was passed over in two drafts was because of the knock on his skating? - hiway39

Indeed. He has worked incredibly hard on that aspect of his game. It isn't a smooth stride by any stretch of the imagination but he has developed some real speed. |

I thought that was Toffoli who had skating problems. Pearson was a late bloomer but on his third try at the draft impressed everyone with his skill set. I gave him an A-. Excited to see how much better he can get on that 70"s line. |

Toffoli was an awful skater when he was in juniors. He still doesn't have the prettiest stride but he makes it work.
Pearson wasn't a bad skater by any means, he just wasn't good. He was average.
That was pretty much the book on Pearson and part of the reason why he was passed over. He didn't excel in any one aspect of the game. He was just "Pretty good" in about everything. |

Pearson's ability to steal the puck is also impressive. Which makes him dangerous on the forecheck. For a guy to make the team and contribute as quickly as he did just two years after we drafted him I'd give him an 'A-'. Huge part of the second line too. The L.A. Kings (and I never thought I'd say this for a long-a$$ time) are really finding some gems in the draft now. Rinse and repeat, Deano!!! |

both of those guys have "plus" speed now for sure (more pearson than toffoli tho). carter's stride just eats up real estate but the kid wings certainly had enough giddy up to remain dangerous.
