The upside is a 4th liner who needs to play easy minutes to produce somewhat decent offensive numbers. There are late July UFA's like Winnik/Galiardi/Penner that I'd take over him easily.

He is still young, had a couple good full seasons, and then some major concussion issues. 2 way deal, I doubt those guys sign 2 way deals.

If this season in Vancouver is about laying a framework for the future, you don't sign Penner, for the simple reason that he doesn't bring it every night and that's not what you want to show the kids coming up. When he does bring it, he is an effective player, but he only became a semi-important part of the Kings' 2012 win after spending time in Sutter's doghouse.

He is, however, the only player that is currently on the roster who can play center that is right handed....
