Could mean Avs know they're losing Statsny and need another center.
Could mean Avs know they're keeping Statsny and will need cap space next year.
Who knows? |

two bad contracts flipped for each other. Briere is a proven playoff scorer though, so in that sense it's an upgrade. |

I think it was a decent move, and I don't think it really means Stastny is completely gone. Briere can be the third line center, and they may keep O'Reilly and McKinnon at wing... Mitchell goes to Fourth line, and we get Tanguay back

That's bit happening like that.
ROR duchene tanguay
Landy stastny Mackinnon or
Landy Mackinnon ufa (iggy/hemsky?)
McGinn Mitchell briere
McLeod talbot bordy
But I like the trade, pap couldn't crack the top 6 anymore so swapping him for a lesser contract length, gain a vet, and a little more offense for the 3rd line if he's healthy. |

Weird lineup without Mckinnon... also if the Avs acquired iggy, he'd definitely be on one of the top 2 lines... Also I can't see Hishon making it on the third line at all. The only thing that makes sense here is the idea of Briere as third center. |

Not really, Briere was useless during the regular season and yet another midget is shown the door. Win - win in my books! |

PAP isn't great but he isn't terrible. He's a wreck defensively and is a pretty slow skater (a nightmare if he is playing the point on the pp)
I know briere hasn't been a rockstar either but Roy had no trust in using pap, so getting a guy for the 3rd line that Roy likes is a win for us |

The reason why this works... PA was not going to crack our top 6, he needs top 6 minutes... while we need some third line/playoff scoring and leadership. Not to mention a one year deal that if it doesn't go well COL can walk away next summer. I'll take 116 points in 124 playoff games any day! |

He's here to stay I think, NTC, he asked for a trade and he waived it from the flames to come back to the avs, can't see him waiving it again, especially since he was a good player when healthy. |

When Healthy. Wouldn't his NTC be voided when he waived it to move to Colorado? |

For a brief moment I had hope this was a salary dump/buyout to resign Stastny & O'Reilly. Apparently not. What an incredibly awful trade. |

Love getting a view from an Islanders fan to give the idea of PA's whole career. It is the players around him that make him, I.E. Duchene and Taveres... Who does Montreal have that can be that for him? |

It's within the length of the contract, I don't believe it goes away once you waive it once. |

Not sure about that. PA was a decent possession wise in both NYI and Colorado. |

I don't mind it. Pap wasn't going to in our top 6 and when he played with anyone outside of duchehe, his offense dried up. I'll take the vet leadership and playoff heroics, how often did we see pap being a shadow and non factor in the playoffs.
Big win is cap space after this season, plus open roster spot for a prospect/kid moving forward.
Would have rather moved pap for d help but it sounded like he was untradable for a deal like that according to dater earlier |

Agreed on PAP not fitting, but I think that was coach bias more than anything.
As for playoff prodiction, he shot 5.9%...over 7 games, a bit unlucky as I see it. Being played on the point for 5on4 when Barrie went down went a long way to make him look poor. I don't think we can put that on PA.
When he's on the ice we do better with shotshare and goal share/60 minutes. Giving that up for a guy who's passed his prime who shot 15% in the playoffs this year. Yikes. Better hope we make it that far to see that (imagined) return.
The cap flexibility. Ok sure, maybe...but this is no different than the Downie/Talbot deal for me. Just bad asset managment. |

Avs clear up Cap space, bring in a Vet guy who is one of the most clutch playoff performers of the past decade to mentor the young guys as well. Adds flexibility as well. I like the trade even in PA is the better player. |

I think it depends...Maybe the player has to agree to have it removed..

FYI, the #Coyotes did not retain Gagner's NMC clause. Nixed in the trade. @capgeek |
