Man, I love playoff hockey. - John Jaeckel
Amen.
I hope the Hawks can take Game 5 in St. Louis. If that can happen, it might put the Blues down for the count. |

Wow, what a game. I thought the Blues out skated the Hawks last night and controlled the game for the most part. The Hawks haven't really been able to play their game due to the Blues smothering them and slowing down the play.
And, I think the Blues have played better without Backes. |

Bickell - Big Game
Kaner - Big game (looked faster too. He had a bit in his step)
Versteeg -Time for someone else (Morin). He was demoted to the 4th line-ish yesterday
Saad - Looks like he is a bit lost out there. Defensively looked good but not going to the net at all.

Agreed on Bickell and Kaner... Huge Huge Huge!!!! I think Sharp is next to get going.. He was playing pretty angry last night..
Versteeg makes me cringe everytime he gets the puck because he seems to be auditioning for the globetrotters..
Saad does look lost but I will also agree that his defense is much needed right now. He plays hard, just can't find the scoring touch..
Go Hawks!! |

Indeed he does. He does, though, have a very accurate handle on the resolve of the champion Hawks. In fact it seems he has better insight on this topic than many Hawks fans. How's it going, D? - mohel

I'll add that Brookbank was effective stepping in for Seabs. Hammer continues to be a stud. Shaw had quite the bi-polar game - stupid penalty and a grease goal. Sharp was bad, and dogged it down the ice after missing a shot before the 3rd Blues goal. Hossa has been intermittent.
Anybody want to bark about Bickell's contract or tell us again about how he's a lazy-ass? |

I feel you there. Happy the Hawks took one in OT. Dragging ass from the late start and OT. Poor prd. Do you think the Scotsman got any sleep?

Agree on everything but Saad. That was his best game by far last night. He was cycling along the boards, had some pep in his step and was hitting people.
I agree he looked a bit timid the first three games but not last night. |

I think I squeezed in four hours of sleep this morning. My last class ends somewhere between 8 and 9 pm. It's going to be a long day for me. |

I will!
No was commenting on a post Paul had in the last thread about a guy who the switch has flipped for.
He's been hitting Blues the whole series and I'm hoping last night's goal has opened the door for a repeat of last season's offensive playoff performance. |

The team's best game of the series by far. But there is still lots of room for improvement. Losing that two goal lead was inexcusable, and its a bit disconcerting how quickly they start to turtle with a lead, rather than pressing the boot down harder onto the opponent's throat - it's kind of been a trend all year.
But, what was encouraging was the last 5-6 minutes of the third period, paired with overtime. The team found their swagger. During the NBCSN broadcast, they made the comment that Bickell was chirping at the Blues bench that, "they were scared." Really, really good to see that bullying, take-no-prisoners attitude start to percolate, because that's the mindset that wins championships.
As much as we've been pounding Saad and Versteeg these last several days, that third line actually played pretty well together, especially early on. Saad hasn't been converting, but his speed is dangerous, and it created some opportunities last night. Versteeg really wasn't noticeable in a good or (overly) bad way last night, which I can live with. I still wouldn't mind Morin, or even Regin dressing in his place.
Tip of the cap to Ben Smith, who hopefully cemented himself as the 2C for a time. I'm sure we'll see different looks, but I like how his effort-game compliments 10 and 81.

As yet, zero hours...
But 12 cups of coffee has kept me awake...only two more hours with these basterds and I'm more or less free of them until September |

I actually thought both Versteeg and Saad had their best games of the series last night - although that may only be a marginal compliment...
Saad's wheels are still dangerous, and he pushed the pace last night on several occasions, which is what this team needs to win the series. |
