Proof that fans are a fickle bunch.

Or, you know, expectations were different his rookie season.

I'm no fan of rosehill being in the lineup and I am one of the people who female doges non stop about wanting a better 4th line but that said, I did think that fight wasn't Boulton challenging Rosehill but rather Rosehill coming in to defend Rinaldo. Necessary? no, but not a "staged" situation where Boutlon challenged Rosehill per se
- nastyflyergirl

Agree...Rinaldo was down on his knees after giving a hit and Rosehill got in front as Boulton went after Zac...

He's had 6 minors and 2 majors so far this season. I have no idea how many penalties he's drawn.

Sure, he could be better, but this isn't nearly so cut and dry. First and foremost, the NHL is terrible when it comes to consistent officiating even from period to period within a game, let alone from one game to another. And Rinaldo gets things on reputation that other players are a lot less likely to get penalized for.

My point, however, was that even with his limited ice time, he's earning $750,000 and is only a few points behind the points leaders on this team. Further, he's also the Hits leader on this team by a decent margin, and that's with his limited ice time. And I'm in favor of having a player taking the body.

If we're listing the problems with the Flyers, Rinaldo is near the bottom in my opinion, therefore I don't really get the complaints.

He's drawn 1 penalty this year.

While I agree about the officiation of NHL games, Rinaldo doesn't do himself any favors when he high sticks a guy 100 feet from the puck, like he did against the Islanders in the third period of a 1 goal game.

His undisciplined play has led to him playing less minutes than he did last year, which forces the top 3 lines to play more minutes and get worn down more. I can live with the occasional reputation call if he's drawing more penalties or playing well enough to see 8-10 minutes a game...but he's not.

For Rinaldo to be effective he has to get under opposing teams' skin and draw penalties, in addition to staying out of the box himself and playing smart hockey. The only thing that Rinaldo's high hit totals mean is that he's chasing the puck quite a bit more than he's possessing it.

I am praying for the days in this season when the main problem we have is whether or not Rinaldo isn't drawing enough penalties or taking too many.

Mason, 25,who can become an unrestricted free agent after the season, and the Flyers (3-7) will be severely challenged Tuesday when they face Anaheim (9-3) at the Wells Fargo Center.

I don't think anyone feels Rinaldo is the biggest problem the Flyers face...but saying he's been effective at his role this season is simply not the case when one looks at all the factors.

If Vinnie really can continue to perform well as the #1 right wing the first three lines look a lot better to me. Schenn is better at C and now both Schenn and Couts have legit wingers to play with.

I'm ok getting Mez a game, but has Gusty really played badly?
Other then the late icing PLind mentioned I think he has been solid.

Agree...it is like complaining about Kordic and Laquiox when Eric and Leclair didn't score a goal one night...just plain stupid talk with the other issues out there...

I just am driven nuts when a young player gets benched for making mistakes while veterans can make the same mistake over and over again and nothing

If he was doing the same things he did last season, I'd have zero issues with him. I'm still kind of stunned he hasn't been a healthy scratch yet under Berube.

Frank came back with:

His actual salary is $5.5 million this season, yes. Which is why I made it clear with the use of the word "salary." The information is not wrong. I wrote extensively in the first story, linked in the blog, to clarify.

Limited pickings for that 4th line, and maybe Chief and the assistants are seeing things we're missing. I think the team as a whole, for the most part, has gotten a mulligan for the first 10 games, but the belt is going to get tighter and tighter as we move through the season because the margin for error for the Flyers is slim. And hopefully that matters after the Olympic break, cause that means we're still in the mix for the post-season.

Part of it is Rosehill. He's played over 10 minutes in a NHL game twice, both were blowouts when he was a Leaf.

If they went Talbot-Hall-Rinaldo more often, then they'd have a 4th line they can rely on, especially if Rinaldo gets back to what he was doing last season.

Yeah, the Flyers have enough scrappers in the lineup where dressing a 1-dimensional fighter seems unnecessary.

Keep Hall in the lineup so he can hopefully keep improving on his faceoff skills like G and Couts and B Schenn, and that makes the 4th line even more effective because hopefully they are starting off with the puck more than half the time. That and rotating Talbot and Raffl could be interesting and should certainly see that line average close to 10 minutes per night, no doubt.

The argument could also be made that Rinaldo's being a bit more careless/reckless because he knows Rosehill is out there in cases like the one from Saturday, when Rosehill fought Boulton, who was gunning for Rinaldo after the hit.
