Does anyone else feel that with Simmonds signed at a cap friendly hit for a couple of year, we could of had Vanek for Simmonds and a 2nd?

stupid trade for the flyers

Gus a healthy scratch. I just don't agree with this at all. I don't know why a change on D is warranted

If it was...but Matt Moulson isn't.

I'd bet that the Sabres can flip him for at least another 2nd rounder and decent prospect, maybe even another 1st, by the trade deadline.

Moulson has scored 30 goals three times, and had 15 in the lockout shortened 2013 season, which has him near a 30 goal pace in 82 games. I could see a few teams interested in that, namely the Kings, Canucks, Rangers or even the Flyers.

i wouldn't be so quick to move him. depends on the return.

I would. I'm one of those who feels that Moulson is a good player, but that he was helped a lot by playing with Tavares. Still a 20-25 goal scorer, but not a 30-35 like he's totaled.

If I could get LA's 1st rounder tomorrow for him, he'd be on a plane.

Could have had him for 6 months, yeah. Then he bolts to Minnesota for 8 years, $7.5 million.

He could only be signed for 7 as a UFA...but I have a question.
Say you want to sign a player for 8 years at $7M per, but since he's a UFA, you can only sign him for 7. So, what if you sign the player to a one-year deal at $7M. Then, since he's in the last year of his deal, you extend him for 7 (or 8 if you want a 9-year deal) years at $7M. Would that work?

Rinaldo, 1 assist, earning $750,000 and doing exactly what he's supposed and expected to do is the problem with the Flyers!

I read that Berube wasn't happy with a late icing Gustafsson took. Gus has been pretty solid, he's dropped off the last few games, but overall he's been good.

Is Rinaldo going to be held accountable for the mindless penalties he took?

As a 4th liner and energy player, he's not supposed to be sitting in the penalty box for more time than he is on the ice. He's supposed to be drawing as many penalties as he's taking, and he hasn't been coming close to doing that this season

I think they really wanted the 1st more than the 2nd. Simmonds and a 2nd wouldn't have gotten it done IMO.

Sent back to juniors as an overager to save on the ELC.
- jmatchett383

So you think he'd be here, contributing in a big way and being fully ready to be an NHL top 6? Because I'll admit I'm not happy with Couturier's development and think he'd have been better off not being made a defensive forward in the NHL instead of going back for another year.

Wouldn't it be interesting if we ended up seeing BOTH Vanek and Moulson move at the deadline this season...

Not if you're rebuilding. If the Sabres can turn this trade into 2 1st rounders, a 2nd and a prospect, then it worth far more than Simmonds.

He's had 6 minors and 2 majors so far this season. I have no idea how many penalties he's drawn.

Sure, he could be better, but this isn't nearly so cut and dry. First and foremost, the NHL is terrible when it comes to consistent officiating even from period to period within a game, let alone from one game to another. And Rinaldo gets things on reputation that other players are a lot less likely to get penalized for.

My point, however, was that even with his limited ice time, he's earning $750,000 and is only a few points behind the points leaders on this team. Further, he's also the Hits leader on this team by a decent margin, and that's with his limited ice time. And I'm in favor of having a player taking the body.

If we're listing the problems with the Flyers, Rinaldo is near the bottom in my opinion, therefore I don't really get the complaints.

The problem there, IMO, is how Laviolette handled him. If you task him as a defensive player, and leave him there, that's what he'll be...now, berube has him playing more with Read and other offensively capable players and Couturier can grow as an all around player, without worrying that his next mistake with the puck will see him end up back with Rosehill & Rinaldo
