Because Rinaldo and Rosehill barely scratching 3-4 mins a night is so ESSENTIAL that they couldn't possibly fathom what seems like the obvious move, which is dressing 7 dmen.
- Tomahawk

I've never been a huge fan of 7 d-men, but I'd take just about any lineup configuration that doesn't have Jay Rosehill and Zac Rinaldo on the same line.

I think Berube is safe, regardless of what happens, at least for the term of his deal. The changes he's made are very evident and the team is playing better under him than it was under Laviolette.

Unless they have a catastrophic collapse, I think that Chief is safe.

- Jsaquella

If Hexy does step in, he might want to hire his own guy,.

Berube's going to be behind the bench here for the rest of his contract... it might just be as an assistant or leading the Phantoms.

I loved the signing and I don't mind Streit at all either. but I do think it will probably end up being similar to the Briere situation. Like it now but in the final year or two we may wish there was still a compliance buyout or two laying around
- nastyflyergirl

the cap will have surpassed the pre-lockout limit by then. hopefully that will help. even better if he actually produces and is worth the $.

Honestly, I blame the GM for that last part, for giving him the option in the first place.
- Jsaquella

Exactly -- at some point, you straight-up need to remove the option.

I don't think Berube will be blamed as such, but it they miss the playoffs again I see Hextall coming in as GM and he'll probably want to install his own coach.
- Feanor

Of course. That's part of the business.

But if the Flyers miss the playoffs this year, I doubt many around the league are going to look at Berube and think that he blew it. This whole mess will get pinned on Homer.

I'd bet that Hextall had some input on the decision to hire Berube. I don't think it's as cut and dried as if Homer's out, Berube's toast, too.

We just won 2 in a row, getting better each game and we make lineup changes? Why?
- Buzzo

A little perspective: they didn't beat the '27 Yankees.

It might be a MacTavish in, Ralph Krueger out after one season, Dallas Eakins in kind of situation.

Looks like Meszaros back in (paired with Timonen) and Gustafsson a healthy scratch tomorrow, based on pairings at practice today.

All forward combos the same. Tough to say whether Hall or Rosehill will be the healthy scratch, as they have both rotated in and out of line rushes.

That is possible, but Kreuger had the benefit of a brief camp and summer to plan things out...Berube got handed the reigns after a week, and his changes have been evident.

Please for the love of god let them play Hall instead of Rosehill.

not necessarily. if berube shows steady progress, and some of the younger guys take that next step forward, i think he's safe. remember, he and hexy were teammates, too. i'm sure there's some kind of bond/respect that goes back to their playing days, and he'll get the benefit of the doubt.

how rosemont can get in the lineup ahead of hall is beyond my grasp.

Honestly, I still have no idea how this season is going to turn out... I was just questioning the assumption that Chief was safe just by virtue of having a fresh extension in hand.

Gotcha...I wasn;t saying the new deal was the sole reason, just that I feel he's safe for that long.

He's got the team playing markedly better, and was handed the keys when the car was in a ditch on the side of the road...if he gets them out of the ditch and stays competitive over the last 72 games, I think he sticks, even if Hexy is the GM by the springtime.

Of course, if they're horrible and the current improvements don't sustain themselves, I'd agree Berube would be toast, as well. I just doubt he's a certain goner if they miss the playoffs and/or Holmgren is out as GM

I don't like it. I really would rather let Gus get the experience and work through his growing pains than having to sit everytime he has a rough game or two.
- nastyflyergirl

I agree unless this is his last games as a Flyer and this is to shop him prior to bringing up Gus for good.

Now that the Flyers are using advanced metrics and data capture, you need this new app to figure it out.

1985 -- April 11 -- In Game 2, Pelle Lindbergh made 38 saves and Todd Bergen scored twice in a 3-1 win. Bergen tied the score in the second period and notched the go-ahead tally in the third period. There was a bench-cleaing brawl at the end of the second period and 88 PIMs in the game. New York Daily News writer Frank Brown penned "The Flyers spent the night sending strong, eager, healthy bodies over the boards for every shift. The Rangers replied largely with cripples, midgets and pacifists."

Looks like some improvements are taking place. Mason continues to play very well.

Rosehill and Rinaldo spend more time in the box, than on the ice. Rinaldo taking one dumb penalty after another. Let's see some accountability.

Rinaldo running around hitting everyone was cute for a while, the novelty of it has worn off. Put in place a 4th line that can show some puck possession.

The 4th line should be Talbot/Hall/Raffl

The guys that do blogs for the Original 6 franchises should have already lifted that idea if they were smart. Just a ton of info for bloggers of those franchises to mine.

it must be hard for them to find, you know you have to look over the "advanced stats for dummies" pile.

We've had Meszaros being a hair away from being traded for the better part of what... 4-5 months now? My money's on TDL at the earliest, if at all.
