are we seriously going to cry about Maroon now? and calling him a bonafide NHLer is a bit premature.

On a different note, at what point is Mason signed and what kinds of contract does he get?

Obviously a very small sampling but stats with their new teams

Bob - 48 GP - 25-17-6 (4-6-0) - 4 SO (0) - 2.13 GAA (2.60), .928 save % (.916)
Mason - 15 GP - 7-7-0 (3-5-0) - 0 SO (0) - 2.04 GAA (2.15), .937 save % (.930)

Bob with the Veznia but lets see how it goes over a 82 game schedule. I do tend to think this will be one situation where both teams are happy with who they ended up with.

That's going to be one interesting question, because he took a paycut on the one-year deal for this year -- and rightfully so, based on his last couple of years in Columbus.

But let's just say he comes in with, oh...a .915 SVPCT for the year, and a GAA of 2.55-2-70 or so, in 60 games.

The last guy we had do that was making $5.5 million per.

For me...I think he gets two years, at maybe...$3-$3.5 million. I'd think it would get done over the summer...he's restricted, so I don't know how much of a rush there has to be.

I'd definitely wait to see how most of this year pans out before offering an extension. If he can keep up this level of play for most of the season, he could see upwards of $3 million on a multi-year deal, imo.

Nice article....

Lecavalier might be no Jaromir Jagr

To be fair, when Jagr was here, he wasn't the Jaromir Jagr in his pre-KHL days, either. I don't say that to diminish what Jagr did here, but simply to add some context.

That game against the Sabres in '06 was one of few regular season games I've missed, due to work, over the last 18 years. The score indicated it was brutal, but I can honestly say I didn't see that one -- thankfully.
- AllInForFlyers

Fortunately I was in DC watching a Caps/Pens playoff game and had only to deal with the scorboard watching. It made me sad.

am I correct in saying his next contract will be the last as a RFA? Definitely will be interesting to see how many years he gets

Looks like Meszaros is in tomorrow an Gustafsson return to the press box.

Not entirely surprising, Gustafsson struggled a bit in the last two games.

The bizarre thing about reading about Vincent Lecavalier is that, for whatever reason, there was this odd consensus that he was in some huge career decline and that he had little left in the tank.

He had 32 points in 39 games last season. He's missed 10-plus games due to injury in each of the last three seasons, but he's scored at roughly a 60-ish point clip per 82 games for each of those.

Will he decline during this contract? Yes. There is little-to-no doubt about that.

But there was absolutely no reason to expect that decline to begin this season. Or even next season. And, if he keeps his fitness level up and he remains engaged and is able to stay healthy, I have little doubt that he's going to put up a couple of 30 goal seasons and a couple of 25-goal seasons over these five years.

Other aspects of his game will suffer, like skating and endurance. But the guy understands offense, knows where to go on the ice, is 6-4 inches tall and can shoot the puck.

He's going to score goals.

IMHO Mason so far is team MVP if awards were handed out, he has gave the team a chance every night to at the least earn a point. Consistency in pipe really since he started last season playing with us after the trade..nothing more calming to see this from what we have seen in the past many of years.
- Buzzo

Funny how that works, fix the goaltending and every one is in shock and forgets how to score goals.

Fair enough -- I'm not the biggest fan, obviously, but I believe very few players should be guaranteed a spot in the lineup, and Gus hasn't done enough to be an automatic.

Hopefully, Meszaros does good things.

Yes, this will be his last deal negotiating as an RFA.

I don't like it. I really would rather let Gus get the experience and work through his growing pains than having to sit everytime he has a rough game or two.

I wonder if Meszaros will play with Kimmo like Gus was doing, or if they will revert back to:

I'd rather see Gustafsson make it impossible to remove him, but he's been very up and down. The others have been more solid than he has, and Meszaros is champing at the bit to get back on the ice.

I agree, but it's not a surprise at all...Meszaros is making a lot of coin sitting in the press box.
