I was thinking the same thing; it doesn't appear as intent to injure, just a careless follow through to me.

But more importantly, is Nash ok?

- Danformo

Yeah whats the news on Nash? Concussions are the worst.

Stuart should be out as long as Nash. If a player is going to target the head he must face the consequences

2 Things
First, the suspension should have been a little longer. I think like some of the other commenters there was some intent to injure.
Second, suspension length should absolutely be discussed. In my mind there are only 2 options and the NHL has tried to come down somewhere in the middle (unsuccessfully).
Option 1)
Injury due to illegal hit has no bearing on suspension length. An illegal hit is an illegal hit. Period. If an elbow to the head is illegal then it should be illegal in all situations regardless. This is the option that I prefer and this is the most fair because it *should* be the most consistent to enforce.

Option 2)
Suspension length is directly tied to injury length with a max cap of 2 seasons. If an elbow to the head keeps a guy out for the rest of the year, then the perpetrator should also be out for the rest of the year. It would be inconsistent and sometimes keeps perps out longer due to the freak injuries that sometimes occur, but it would still be better than the current system and take the guesswork out of the NHL's discipline office.

The play had nothing to do with Hertl........Nobody here is calling for his suspension, what I would like is DZ get punched in the face to wake his ass up.

Jan Levine: Stuart Suspended Three Games. Fair or Nor?
Suspended for hit on Nash..

- airjan23

Ok...1st off, the referee who made the call was the furthest one from the play & could not see the hit being 50 feet down the ice. The closest ref never raised his arm & was literally 10 feet from the play... Second, his elbow never hit Nash...it was his shoulder (& after looking at it it did look like it caught his chin a little)....
Lastly, given Nash's history, (see his flying people's elbow on Kopecky - an elbow that he wasn't suspended for - again, leaping off the ice & coming down on the back of his head with the elbow...NOT suspended; also see his hit from behind on Stuart when he played for Detroit) three games is bogus. 1 is warranted, maybe even 2 in today's kinder gentler NHL...but 3?

Puhleeeeeaze.*

I used to laugh at Shanaban's suspensions....now I get that he's the joke itself.

You mean this?

I just spun the wheel for this particular incident and landed on 6 games for Stuart so now I can safely say that he got off easy.

So 2 is ok but 3 makes you go on a rant? Sorry I just don't understand why 1 more game is driving you insane.

Dude...

Glad he's back home. Solid defender with a heavy shot. Who couldn't use one of those, right?

Gonna miss the rivalry the Sharks-Wings had, man...big time.

One was ok...
Maybe 2.... Maybe 2...

The inconsistency with the punishment is what's insane...

NHL 14 should have been updated with Mike Emrick as an announcer, this has nothing to do with anything but it just came to my mind

Honestly from the angle they show it doesn't lol like his elbow is anywhere close to making contact with his head. it looks more like he hits his shoulder and there's a little follow thru with the forearm that gets up a little higher. def not intent to Injure just bad luck for both parties after a clean hit
- oopsb13

Shanahan acknowledged that, it was shoulder but he leaves his feet to make contact with his head

So because Nash elbowed Kopecky he had this coming to him and Stuart shouldn't have to pay the price for being careless
