Maybe he wasn't dismissing Hank but I didn't think mentioning the fact he hasn't gotten the Rangers to the Finals yet wasn't as important in this discussion as Hank's Olympic success and experience. As for age, Hank was just 23 when his team won the gold in 2006. And wasn't Ryan Miller the starter for the US team in 2010?

I guess it really doesn't matter. Hank will be the starter in net for Team Sweden so any debate about where he would fit hypothetically into the Canadian or US depth chart is pointless. Particularly since the blog is supposed to be about the money Hank might earn on his next contract and that the cash isn't going to be the only factor that goes into his decision.

True. It's a documented fact that I'm dumb, which is only compounded by the early start of the beer/bbq festivities here in San Diego. Which only begs the question, what am I doing on here instead of drinking?

Which festivities are you referring to? I'm in North County San Diego and didn't hear about it. Though I wouldn't go anyway in all likelihood. Cost of getting older.

It's in my backyard with buddies, so not a shock you didn't hear about it. Never expected to find someone who lived so close to me on this site. I'm in San Marcos.

If Crawford is worth 6 million per year, Lundqvist is worth 12.
- LeftCoaster

Hes gonna get probably 10 or 11 million per year until hes 35, then its gonna taper down.

Eklund: Lundqvist Decision Will NOT Be Only About Money
- Eklund

Ek is the most trusted man in hockey, especially when it comes to the Rangers. As proof, here is his blog from a couple months ago:

"Surprisingly, John Tortorella will be back as Rangers coach. This via several sources this morning as well as a Katie Strang article on ESPN. Katie is very on top of the NY Hockey Scene and this morning the NY Scene isn't being shy about letting it be known Tortorella will be back."

Quick and Lundqvist is an interesting argument. Two goalies, pretty much near top of their games and list as to the best netminders in the league, the difference being that Quick is signed to a very friendly cap deal while Lundqvist is likely to get $7-8 mil per. Quick has a Stanley Cup and Lundqvist a Gold Medal, so can say that the battle for the net of Hank qualified to play for the US would be interesting. For Canada, I can see Crawford, Holtby and Price battling to start with Luongo and Smith having their shot dependent on how well they are playing early this season. Its hard to argue that Lundqvist would not backstop Tam Canada if he was eligible.

It's clearly those 2 in the top tier

At least Van doesn't have the most untradeable contract anymore. This is an awful signing. WOW.

He wouldn't be the automatic starter for the Americans. Quick won a cup standing on his head and last time I checked, Lunquist hasn't even brought a team to the finals yet.

"Henrik Lundqvist wants assurances the Rangers are going to be a better team. No NHL goalie wants to have to win every game 1-0 or 2-1."

Well, ever tried to watch any local Rangers games on tv ? The ice is just so bad at MSG, they don't really care if the puck is bouncing all around the ice for hockey games at nights after having the circus in the morning and the NBA in the afternoon before a hockey game. Seems like all game there either end up 1-0, 2-1 or 3-2, and they are all boring games to watch, beside the fact that they seem to have weird camera locations there.

I just looked at last season stats, thought this would prove my point, and i was.. partly wrong.

At home, the 24 games involving the Rangers had a goal per game avg of 5,125, 19th best in the league (3.08 NYR + 2.04 for away teams). The most action was in CGY, at 6.5 goals per game, while the most boring place to be was in Ottawa (we already knew that, just didn't know their arena was home to boring games as well) with 4.125 goal per local game.

On the road however, the Rangers combined for 3rd in the most-boring games ranking, with a total of 4.625 goals per game (2.16 goals-for, 2.46 goals-against)

Anyway, i'd rather watch the Islanders, the Panthers or even the Leafs than the Rangers. Except that game were the Rangers were leading 5-0 and lost 6-5 to Montreal, which was an epic meltdown.

Hahahaha, you had to wait a long time to have an opportunity to say that right? Btw, Crawford isn't signed until he will be in a nursing home, so Van still has the most untradeable contract. In other words, you fail, epically.

Clearly Quick belongs in the conversation with Hank as to the top goalie in the league but to dismiss Hank in this scenario simply because he hasn't carried his team to the finals is off base. I would point out that Hank has led his country to an Olympic gold medal while Quick has yet to backstop his country to a medal.
- gkmkiller

So has Roberto Luongo, he also has won a gold medal. That doesn't mean I'm going to rate him better than Quick or Hank.

At the end of the day after being a goalie for over 20 years, I feel Quick is a better goalie, not by much but as of right now he is. If I'm playing a winner take all game and I have my choice of any goalie in the world. I would take Quick. If Quick isn't available than Hank would be a solid second choice.

I think Hank is probably the best shootout goalie in the world though if that helps any.

I want Hank to stay right where he is. I enjoy the front row seat to his perpetual failure.

*Sorry Ranger fans, just warming up the ole trash talking organ, as the season is fast approaching.

This year will be interesting. With Torts taking his antics out west, there likely wont be 5 players laying on the ice in front of Hank for every shot, I'm curious to see if he maintains those numbers.

It's like they are immune to the cap. Did they give chicago immunity to the CBA?
