1. Grigorenko (I really want to see if he improved and I'd like to see what he brings to the top six).
2. Girgensons (Who doesn't want to see a complete heart and soul guy who has decent offensive potential?).
3. Ristolainen (Everyone keeps saying he is basically NHL ready. I want to see if this is true or not). |

i think those three are going to be in pretty much everyones top 5.. i think those would be my top three. I am also curious to see what McNabb is going to look like this year |

I think McNabb's future with this team is only as a third pairing guy. He would need to improve drastically to fit in with our future plans. If we expect Ristolainen and Zadorov to at least meet our lowest expectations, and we also expect Myers to not get any worse, then our top four is some combination of Myers, Ehrhoff, Zadorov, Ristolainen (possibly Pysyk if one of those four cannot or ceases to be a top four defenseman).
Edit: That is not for this coming season by the way, I mean this for when we are a competitor down the road. McNabb could possibly steal a top four spot this season, but I find that difficult seeing that Myers, Ehrhoff, and probably Tallinder are locks for three of those four spots. He would have to beat out Sulzer, Weber, Pysyk, and McBain to claim that spot. With Pysyk's surprisingly smooth transition to the NHL, Weber's slow but steady improvement, and McBain's potential I find it hard that McNabb finds a spot on the Sabres' roster this season. |

Armia is my #4. Hasn't Varone been in the AHL for several seasons now? What's his game and projection looking like?
Edit: Apparently Varone isn't old as I thought. Still don't know much about him. |

Baker had a nice write up on the tourney
"The Buffalo Sabres will head west to Michigan Sept. 5-9 looking to defend their title at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament. The official roster will be announced Tuesday via Twitter at 5:00 p.m., but below is a look at who the Sabres could tab for action at the popular event.
---
As has been the case in previous years, the squad will likely be comprised of CHL and AHL hopefuls, including a maximum of four players with at least one year of pro experience, while the possibility exists that a few free agent invites could fill out the roster. If the "veteran" rules remains in tact, the Sabres will obviously have some tough decisions to make.
Players competing in the NCAA ranks will not participate as NHL training camps take place during fall semester (and also due to the fact that college players would have to pay their own way in order to preserve their collegiate eligibility).
Here is the best guess:
Dan Catenacci - Mikhail Grigorenko* - Joel Armia
Logan Nelson - Zemgus Girgensons* - Colin Jacobs
Eric Locke - Justin Kea - Justin Bailey
Kevin Sundher* - Tim Schaller - Nick Baptiste
Nikita Zadorov - Rasmus Ristolainen
Jerome Gauthier-Leduc* - Brady Austin
plus free agent invites
Andrey Makarov
free agent invite or Nathan Lieuwen*
*denotes player with one year of North American pro experience.
Three other players on entry-level deals -- Johan Larsson, Chad Ruhwedel, and Mark Pysyk -- are also candidates to participate.
It is expected that contract decisions on two players - Logan Nelson (Victoria/WHL) and Eric Locke (Saginaw/OHL) - could be made ending their performances at the tournament. If signed, one or both could be dispatched for AHL duty in Rochester as opposed to spending another season on the buses in junior."

Varone is a pass first center
quote from the write up
"Talent Analysis
Scouts are divided about Varone. Some say that, despite his small stature, he is slick and skilled enough to be a top-six playmaker in the NHL, with a Daniel Briere-like ability to elevate his game when it matters most. Others say that Varone is destined to top out as an AHL scorer." |
