Colin Dambrauskas: Calgary Flames 2013-14 Projected Line-Up
- Colin Dambrauskas

Curtis Glencross - Matt Stajan - Jiri Hudler
Sven Baertschi - Mikael Backlund - Mike Cammalleri
Lee Stempniak- Knight - TJ Galiardi
Tim Jackman - Roman Horak - David Jones

Monohan might start the season but he shouldn't be playing. You stock pile you good prospects for a couple years to take better advantage of the contracts. This year is a write off. Unless you have a good prospect that you need to play to win you wait until you you have a winning team. You end up with the Oiler problem by having your great prospects play to young that by the time you start getting better they are already on big contracts.

Unless people thing monohan has hit is peak and is going to be the same player 18-21 as 20-23.

Monahan should not be on the roster. I think Knight is expecting to make it. That's the whole reason he left Florida. I'm curious to see how Ramo does. I don't see him coming in and being anything special though. I think McD will be the starter for most of the year.

At least I don't have to worry about you guys getting McDavid in 2 years, even if feaster was 1st up, he wouldn't choose him with his drafting record

David Jones is going to be a top 6 winger, maybe put on the third line.

I don't see Monohan making the team this year. Calgary is probably better off letting him have another year of junior.

Horak isn't a 4th line type centre, but Blair Jones is.

I fully agree...however many are projecting him as playing and further, his coach and GM say if he outplays the rest he will earn himself a spot.

Kind of scary imo, because I would hope they give him the time to properly develop and not come and get beat up every night in the NHL (unless of course he truly shows he can handle himself...which is quite rare)

....care to elaborate? Aside from Jankowski, how has he really gone off the board with his picks?

I think Jones will be given a chance at top 6. Can't see a $4 million player playing 10 minutes on the 4th line. Not sure if Monahan will see more than 9 games to start the year before being sent back to Jrs? Also think Knight will take 4th line center and Horak will be competing for a wing spot. Not sure if there is room for Horak to start the season in the NHL?

This year might not be the youth movement that some think its going to be. Lots of veterans, albeit younger veterans on one year contracts. Think 2014-2015 season is when you will see a big youth movement.

Russel with Brodie? I guess, granted you could pick any one of him, Butler or O'Brien and they all should not be at #4. Poor Brodie.

I agree that Ramo and his contract pretty much assures him being the #1 goalie this year, but i doubt he breaks 50 games.

I see bottom 5, and maybe bottom 3. On paper probably the worst team, but its really hard to be bad enough for #1. I am not sure how Edmonton did it 3 years in a row? I could see it like last year when they traded Iggy/Bouw and Tanguay and glencross got hurt. Huge influx of rookies at the end of year trying to impress. This year it will be Cammi, Stempniak, Stajan and Butler being traded at the deadline to open spots.

Emile Poirier? Hunter Shinkaruk shouldnt have been there for the canucks to pick that late in the draft...Glad he was, but none the less

We'll see. There is a reason shinkaruk fell past so many teams. Vancouver fans all patting themselves on the back for getting him. Could be an Eberle late first steal or could be a bust with a bad attitude and no defensive game. Only time will tell if the Flames made a better pick. Guys that proclaim these things before these kids even play an NHL game make me laugh.

I remember last year when a projected Leafs line up was posted a Flames can came in and said " They're so (frank)ed!". I won't do that to you guys. It's good to see you're rebuilding and I hope you stay the course. I hate every other Canadian team but it's always better when they're competitive .

There are never guarantees with these drafts my friend...or else the GM's would simply pick their drafts like most of us do with our fantasy teams - TSN rankings.

They have their own rankings from people who they pay to do only one thing - watch and rank these kids.

As mentioned, none of these kids have played a single NHL game and how they each develop can make a big difference. Some being late bloomers, some not able to handle the pressure of turning pro etc etc etc

I was pretty shocked when Nonis picked Hodor over Shinkaruk, because we don't have any really high skilled forwards in the pipeline. (Though I maintain that our top 6 is young enough that it's not a real concern yet.)

There must be a reason he was passed by so many teams, but time will tell.

People fail to realize stuff like this...just because he was a higher projected pick means squat...clearly if several teams passed on him they had a damn good reason. A reason perhaps the Canucks either missed or took the chance on.

But thats 2 years he has gone off the board with his pick...something should be alarming that he keeps doing that with the picks...i mean you traded away your 2 best players for the 2 extra picks this year...I'd be annoyed if Schneider was traded for someone THAT far off the board, that's all i'm saying

Annoyance thinks I am Rhino cuz we both had the same avy for a bit. He's not the brightest troll out there.

Van fans are all high on Shrink because Esplen interviewed him then proceeded to place him in the top 5 in his draft projections....

Esplen has no (frank)ing clue.

Teams have players ranked all over the place and are sometimes far from the consensus. Winnipeg has a history the last few years of going off the board too. Not too many people slagging them for the Trouba pick right now though. As I said. Wait a few years down the road before you claim victory.

Oilers fan come in peace.

I don't think your group of forwards as a whole is that bad. But if you guys can manage any real success it will greatly depend on Monahan and Sven. If those young guys don't produce at a high level the goals will be hard to come by.

The defense and goaltending is what should guarantee you a lottery pick.

Although if Joey MacDonald can get hot and stay hot you might be able to stay out of the lottery. A high underrated goaltender. Always seems to be tossed to the wolves where ever he goes.
