I agree about Broduer but i bet schneider will suprise you and make an all star team with a stellar year very soon.
- digitalbath

Dude is good, but NJ isn't going to have the team around him to get him in an All-Star game. Not next year. I cant see any of these second tier free agents replacing the top tier guys they lost. I think it would be in vein to try and replace them. Im only saying this because I watched Buffalo do this for 6 years before they finally threw the towel in and started a rebuild.

Gionta would have to be in the deal... he's 5'7"!!!

Gionta and a 2015 first round draft pick!!!

Most Habs fans would love to see Gionta back to NJ. Personally I think it could work since Gio is on his last year of his deal. problem is the injury, and fact he cannot be deal.

But in a hypothetical, what if Montreal dealt Gio back to NJ for a pick only and in return Habs also eat $2 million of the contract.

NJ basically gets a 20 goal scorer for $3 million on a 1 way deal and the Habs would free up $3 million in cap space.

the team around him isnt what earns him an all star year, he himself even with the team having a losing record can still be an all star, Bobrovsky played for CBJ and won the vezina

Definitely will be cheering on NJD this season.

I do not want to see this Kovy situation turn into an even bigger disaster then it has. A bottom 5 finish would be devastating.

SO now th NJ Devils are going to trade for offensive talent with no 1st in 2013, no 1st in 2014 and a fairly limited group of offensive players up front.
- willey101

What do you think the reasoning is behind "stopgap" players like Ryder, Clowe, and (supposedly) Brunner? Lou knows this, but addressing the future in goal was a very, very big issue. You can't pass up a guy like Schnieder however, you can get forwards in the UFA market to bridge the gap between your prospects.

Sure... Lou don't care the team is bankrupt and he is retiring.

So untrue it's not funny but whatever.

Well i dont see why Brunner hasnt signed there yeat unless he wants an outrageous amount. he had an OK year and NJ cleary has cap space now, a semi short deal 2-3 years is acceptable as long as he isnt asking for 3.5+

IMO i think they should go after Brunner AND grabo, if they can get both for around 7-8 mil a year, that would help them significantly up front

- digitalbath

I heard Brunner is looking for $4 mil/yr.

I can not comprehend why he thinks he can get this much, he had an OK year, not stellar, he had a little bit of a slump, and he may due the same next year "sophmore slump" so, i wish he would take a cut and stay with detroit for like 2.5 but i have accepted that just wont happen.

We have over 10mil in space, and no big deals to make between now and 3 years besides Schneider, Larsson, and Ryder or his replacement. Zidlicky will be off the books so that will go to Larsson. The rest are kids and 4th liners.

Idk, i understand you have hols to fill, but overpaying tends to always come back and bite you when you have RFAs coming up expecting more money and you dont have as much as planned because of potential bad contracts.

Ship out some older players for picks when everyone who thinks they can win a cup and are willing to slightly over pay, draft well And then tweek thru UFA

It can't hurt us in a 3 year deal. We'll still have room to even add another UFA this year and within the next 3.
