Why was he not bought out? - dwoo33
He was a UFA, at least its only 1 year though. I think Deboer likes having a roamind dman to create offense from the back end and be a PP QB. The first year DeBoer was here we tried a few options on the PP, started with Larssen, traded for Foster, and then Traded for Zid. Hopefully a little more forward depth will make him less of a liability. |

Id like to see Jagr on the other wing with Elias with maybe Henrique centering that line? - dwoo33
I guess Ryder gets moved to his off-wing to play with Lokti-Kovy? Elias-Zajac-Ryder is going to do "A-line-esque" work!
and wouldn't you rather Hedjuk over Jagr? Jagr could barely skate in the playoffs, it was sad to watch. |

Plus I think Ryder lights it up playing with Kovi and Zajac... Clowe on third line playing against weaker comp and on power play |

he just takes so many penalties. It's one thing to be weak in your own zone and be decent with the puck.. but when you take a penalty/game, you're now TWICE the liability. officially no room for a kid. Lou wasn't just blowing smoke with wanting to re-sign Zid.
Greene-Larsson
Salvador-Zidlicky
Volchenkov-Fayne

yikes.
everyone in the bottom 4 is a liability. We only have 1 good defensive pairing.. and it has a 20 year old on it. Salvador can position himself well but that's about it. - MartysBetter88
I almost think we have to put Fayne back with Greene and use larsson with Salvador. We can't have our slowest players playing nearly 2/3s of the game together. |

I don't love the idea of Jagr but on a one year deal I'd be alright with it. - MannySilvers
I wonder if we'd be the oldest team in league history at that point. Jagr is old and slow, but he's still good at possessing the puck and strong along the boards. He could be useful, but we'd have to monitor his minutes, possible under 15 a night. |

Not to mention, I think Hejduk might actually be cheaper because he doesn't have as big of a name/ego as Jagr. |

Hejduk could barely skate in the regular season. I think Jagr was a bit overworked in the playoffs. Neither player can handle a lot of minutes, but Jagr actually put up decent numbers last season (compared to hajduks 4-7-11 in 29 games.) |

I like the resigning Zid especially for one year. He creates O that no other Devil D Man does. |

He also possibly takes more minor penalties than anyone in the league. Deboer really needs to limit the ES minutes him and ATrain get. |

I wish Lou would open up more... Sometimes I just want an explanation as to his thought process, and maybe this deal would make sense to us. As it stands I just don't get it and I haven't from the start.
Also, on Jagr vs. Hejduk. Its probably best we go with neither at the end of the day. Just an impulse I had that he'd be coming our way when the Avs said they wouldnt be bringing him back but he still wants to play. |

TG says Henrique's agent is flying to NJ on Monday to start negotiations. Good to know they haven't been stalling or breaking down this whole time, they just haven't begun yet. I hope it gets done fast once he gets here. |

He's servicable and a decent option on the blue line, compared to what's out there. Not sure why so much bashing (agree he's not great) but I don't see any Scott Stevens or Neidermeyers out there. Perhaps us Devils fans got a bit spoiled from our "Blueline Glory Days"? |

The addition of ference improved them on its on then upgrading that swede that's never going to be more then a third liner for perron they are a much better team and once again another year older I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them in next year especially in the west with 2 less teams |

Let's hope he's not exempt from being scratched like last season. - rmdevil313
Doubt it he will lead the Dmen in ice time again probably. Oh and block Larsson from playing on the PP... |

I think Fayne had stretches where he was the Devils' best D-man. I wouldn't call him a liability. Larsson had more stretches as the goat than Fayne.
