Raymond is okay but I don't see why so many Flames fans want him. He's not that great + Flames already have an abundance of wingers. Need centers or a top-4 D. - Todd.Cordell
Exactly. There are enough wingers, after Galiardi, there should be no consideration to add another, Cammi or no Cammi.
Sometimes, I think ppl forget this is a rebuild, not assembling another plumber team.
Raymond, even at a cap friendly number, isn't worth it. Not skilled enough, injury plagued, and there should be room for the kids to come up and see what they have.
Give me Grabo and a Dman and call it a day. |

Because every time he plays Calgary he absolutely shreds them. Seriously he plays so well against Calgary it's disgusting. |

Yeah well, the Flames are going to get shredded by a lot of teams and players the next few years so that doesn't really distinguish him much. |

Ya I know. I'm just saying, most Flames fans perceptions of Raymond are probably higher than they should be because he always plays good against them...move along |

Give me one reason why they need Raymond? - FLflames34
Obviously got a soft spot for him..
But acquiring cheap assets is never a bad thing. What if our young guys aren't ready and we lose some guys to injury?
And if our young guys earn roster spots or Raymond gets outplayed.. having cheap contracts gives us flexibility to make moves if we have too.
Hoping a cheap Grabo contract will do the same for us. |

Something like this?
Baertschi-Backlund-Hudler
Glencross-Stajan-Stempniak
Galiardi-Grabovski-Raymond
Jones-Knight-Reinhart - kickazzflames
Grabo is better than both Stajan and Backlund. |

Flames should sign NO big ticket free agents this year. Sign a couple guys who could use a shot a redeeming themselves but are still young/cheap (Russell, Pouliot, Schultz)..... This is a REBUILD.. It make zero sense signing a couple decent free agents to finish 28th instead of 30th |

I would love to see Kris Russell sign here. Huge fan of him from his Med Hat day's. He's undersized but the kid can play! |

Though if you can get a C like Grabo I think you do it, youngish and in the next 4 yrs I am sure there goal will be to make the playoffs unlike the Oilers rebuild.
As for the D, get 1 or 2 on the cheap, hope Cundari has a strong yr, and then see what the market looks like next yr. |

Looks like Seguin headed to Dallas for Eriksson, other parts involved as per Dreger. Flames never had a shot then. |

It'll be interesting to see what the deal is, as most said Calgary didn't have the goods to make it happen.
Must be Erikson and a First? Maybe Joe Morrow? |

Just once I would like Calgary to actually have the goods to make a transaction like this. |

Grabovski $ 5.5 a year or $1.89 a year to not play. Meaning to keep Grabo was a $3.61 cap hit. That's a pretty significant gap when you think it's the difference between signing a $ 2.5M FA or $ 6M free agent |

To put Mason Raymond into perspective from a Flames point of view:
Raymond = Lombardi. Fast, shifty, can have the occasionally game where drives teams nuts, but ultimately lacks the finish to match the speed and will end up just frustrating us.
I'll take Grabovski off waivers, though. Even at that price/term, he's a nice stop gap with experience, decent both offensively and defensively and has some anger to his game. |

Agreed!!!! I think Grabo on waivers will change Feasters plans dramatically. |

Grabovski has 61 goals and 125 points in his last 203 games and given he's very good defensively and often goes against the toughest competition possible, a case can be made he's better than Bozak.
Grabovski is better than Bozak. |
