Huge trade in the works. Boston and Dallas close on a deal sending Tyler Seguin to Stars for Loui Eriksson. Other parts involved as well

Wow. Kudos Jim Nill.

That would be an excellent trade for both teams

This blog completey ignores the fact that Kevin Lowe and Craig Mactavish are useless lazy bastards and would need to work well beyond their capabilities to make half of that happen.

But completely ignoring reality is nothing new in these parts, a cherished pastime in fact.

Gilbert's a top 4 D man. EDM arguably has 3 of em. He's absolutely an upgrade on Potter and N Schultz. He'd be a great partner for Klefbom next year(or this year if he makes out of camp)

Just having Seguin-Benn as a 1-2 punch at C is amazing.

To be fair, he pretty much invented standing in front of the net, and he at least has a bit of hand eye to deflect a puck here and there. I'd hire him as a consultant on those skills alone, as it's not something that anyone other than our dearly departed Hartikainen got.
- Morris

Sure, but how much skill does that take? It was all heart.

And wow Seguin to Boston.

Signing Weiss after moving Gagner makes almost no sense. Keep both and RNH and see how good this team really is when they can actually roll 3 GOOD lines.

Bergeron, Krecji, Seguin, Peverley, Kelly, Marchand, Campbell; Toews, Kane/Sharp, Kreuger, Bolland, Handzeus, Frolik, etc.....Center depth wins championships, you guys have very little of it.

- mochoson

Makes a lot of sense you keep a similar player and get a good asset for Gagner.

I think Benn is moving back to the wing.

Also they have chiasson too as a big scoring winger.

Definitely should have taken Seguin over Hall. Look at the return we would be getting right now.

You seem like a good dude Nuge but I don't think I could more strongly disagree with you and clouts.

Gilbert is often barely AHL worthy.

I would not want him on any team. Not at any pairing.

I prefer Potter over Gilbert for the role he provides. While tech Gilbert is a better offensive defenseman, Potter is much stronger on the boards and at least as good positionaly.

Potter is a respectable bottom pairing defenseman night in night out. He takes a lot of flak because he isn't a great defender. But for his price and his role he does exactly what he should be doing. Watch most other teams and there bottom pairings are typically significantly worse than Potter. Potter got stuck with Whiney all last season as well too. Whitney was terrible last season and drug Potter, and whoever else he played with, down considerably.

Gilbert when he plays well looks like a top pairing defenseman. Unfortunatly all too often he looks like an AHL defenseman. Thus why he was benched last year, and is why he is being bought out this year.

Bad positioning, terrible turnovers that seem to always end up in the back of the net, weak physical play, and can be down right terrible at keeping the puck in the offensive zone.

The excuse that has always been made for him is that he has been put in a position too difficult for him, aka top pairing. But no matter what his ice time or what team he plays on he consistently makes massive boneheaded plays.

I always a bit shocked that Gilbert has any fanboys trying to argue his terrible play.

He has clearly been one of the worst players on a dead last team for a significant amount of time.

I do not think it is coincidence that we have moved up the standings the moment Gilbert left the team.. although I know it is not only because of him leaving.

Gilbert was playing 23 mins a night for edm last year n quite well. This year he was stuck playing with Clayton stoner all year and had an abysmal .877 on ice SV%, something he can't control.

He's an upgrade on N Schultz, Potter, and maybe Belov depending on how good he is.

say EDM gets Coburn, deals N Schultz at the deadline n lets Belov walk next year, D looks like this

Smid-Petry
Coburn-Schultz
Klefbom-Gilbert

that's better than what EDM has had the past 3 seasons

I see a blueline without a legit top pairing that will get eaten alive.

true. But NJD made it to game 6 of the SCF with no top pairing.

also, EDM shouldn't not get Gilbert because he's not a top pairing guy. He still upgrades the blue.
